Xcimer Energy median: 34 days open

The posting

Xcimer Energy leverages decades of research on Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) combined with groundbreaking new laser architecture. Our mission is to deploy fusion power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible. Xcimer has assembled a team of leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing with a track record of rapid execution. Supported by leading investors, Xcimer is uniquely positioned to deliver limitless, clean, fusion power to combat climate change. Join us in powering a better world with inertial fusion!

As a Maintenance Technician, you will apply your skills to keep the wound film capacitor line at our Tucson, Arizona facility running safely and reliably — the winders, vacuum drying and impregnation systems, ovens, and test equipment that build the capacitors behind Xcimer's pulsed-power laser drivers. We are looking for our technicians to apply their technical expertise, problem solving skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact the future of energy!

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and production equipment issues in a timely manner to minimize manufacturing downtime.
  • Prioritize the vacuum drying and impregnation systems. Their multi-day cycles and limited tank count mean an unplanned stop there costs more output than anywhere else on the line.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, vacuum, thermal, and electromechanical equipment and systems.
  • Diagnose equipment failures using drawings, schematics, manuals, diagnostic equipment, and systematic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Identify failed or degraded components and perform appropriate repairs or replacements.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment control systems and industrial components within the technician's training and qualifications.
  • Perform equipment adjustments and repairs within approved equipment and process requirements.
  • Verify proper equipment operation following maintenance or repair before returning equipment to production.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering and Process Engineering when repairs or adjustments could affect process parameters, equipment capability, product quality, or validated process conditions.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on manufacturing equipment, tooling, and directly connected utilities according to established maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Perform equipment inspections to identify wear, damage, leaks, abnormal operation, or other conditions that could lead to equipment failure.
  • Identify components approaching the end of their useful service life.
  • Assist in developing and improving preventive and predictive maintenance programs based on equipment condition, failure history, manufacturer recommendations, and production requirements.
  • Support development of equipment-specific maintenance procedures and checklists.
  • Assist with predictive maintenance activities where appropriate, including vibration, temperature, pressure, vacuum, electrical, and other equipment-condition monitoring.
  • Escalate overdue PMs, recurring failures, or equipment conditions that could affect safety, production, or product quality.
  • Document completed preventive maintenance, repairs, equipment failures, parts replaced, and other maintenance activities in Boltline, Xcimer's manufacturing execution system.
  • Ensure required PM activities are completed and properly documented.
  • Maintain accurate equipment maintenance history and records.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and work with Manufacturing Engineering and Process Engineering to determine and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Support root cause investigations involving equipment failures or equipment-related manufacturing problems.
  • Support installation, commissioning, relocation, and modification of manufacturing equipment.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering with equipment upgrades and reliability improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement activities focused on increasing equipment reliability, availability, maintainability, and production uptime.
  • Maintain appropriate spare parts and consumable inventories for critical production equipment.
  • Identify critical spare components and recommend appropriate stocking levels based on equipment reliability and lead time.
  • Work with suppliers and equipment manufacturers to troubleshoot problems, obtain replacement components, and coordinate specialized repairs when necessary.
  • Maintain tools, maintenance equipment, work areas, and spare-parts storage in an organized and serviceable condition.
  • Follow applicable Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, chemical safety, PPE, and other workplace safety requirements.
  • Treat stored electrical energy as a primary hazard: verify that capacitors, high-voltage test equipment, and power supplies are discharged and grounded before work begins, and follow the controls for high-voltage test areas.
  • Handle the oils, solvents, and resins used on the line in accordance with Xcimer's hazard communication program.
  • Identify unsafe equipment conditions and remove or recommend removal of equipment from service when continued operation presents a safety or equipment-damage risk.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 3+ years of industrial maintenance, equipment repair, or manufacturing equipment experience.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience troubleshooting pneumatic and electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Experience using electrical and mechanical diagnostic tools, including digital multimeters and common precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot motors, pumps, valves, sensors, switches, heaters, relays, contactors, power supplies, and similar industrial components.
  • Ability to perform systematic troubleshooting and determine root causes of equipment failures.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, and comfort recording work in a manufacturing execution system. Xcimer runs Boltline; training will be provided.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, engineers, supervisors, equipment suppliers, and other personnel.
  • Ability to work independently while recognizing when engineering or specialized technical support is required.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and equipment reliability.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Must be able to satisfy Xcimer's pre-employment background check.

Desired

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or trade-school training in industrial maintenance or a related field
  • Advanced manufacturing or R&D production environments
  • Capacitor or electrical-component manufacturing equipment
  • Precision winding equipment
  • Vacuum pumps and vacuum systems
  • Oil or fluid processing and impregnation systems
  • Industrial ovens and temperature-control systems
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Pumps, motors, gearboxes, and mechanical drive systems
  • PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment
  • Sensors and industrial instrumentation
  • Electrical control panels
  • Variable-frequency drives (VFDs)
  • Machine alignment and precision mechanical systems
  • Preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  • Maintenance planning in a CMMS or MES such as Boltline
  • Equipment installation and commissioning
  • High-voltage equipment, stored-energy hazards, or electrical test stations such as HiPot
  • NFPA 70E or equivalent arc-flash and electrical safety training

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
