The posting

Join us and rebuild our data stack for AI-first tech and data teams.

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who will redesign how data turns into intelligence at Xeneta. Our engineers, data scientists and analysts already build data products with tools like Claude Code, but the AI agents are only as good as the data they can reach. Our data stack (Snowflake, dbt, AWS, OpenMetadata) is already top-of-class and has been recognised by peers at conferences - your job is to take it to the next level.

You will cut the time it takes to build and ship a data model from days to hours. You will own our data architecture end to end: modelling, pipelines, governance and the stack underneath. You will decide what gets rebuilt, evolved, or retired. You will make data discoverable, trusted and usable by humans and agents alike.

Xeneta provides the data and intelligence that underpins ocean and air freight decisions for the largest buyers and sellers in the market. Your work is what makes that intelligence possible.

Location: Bucharest (RO), London (UK), Oslo (NO)

What you will be doing

  • Own the pipelines that feed the Xeneta platform with data, and decide what gets rebuilt, evolved or retired.
  • Redesign our data models in Snowflake and dbt so a data scientist or engineer can go from an idea to shipped model in hours, not days - without messing up the critical data in production.
  • Make our data usable by AI agents: clean semantics, documented lineage, and metadata that Claude Code and other AI tools can read and act on reliably.
  • Educate the tech and data teams as well as the wider organisation on using data with AI tools.
  • Set the governance rules for how data is defined, owned and accessed, and build them into the stack instead of writing them into a policy.
  • Automate the repetitive work: access provisioning and approvals, onboarding new data sources, adding data quality checks, and keeping documentation and lineage current.

What we are looking for

Among your skills and prior experience, you should have:

  • 5+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role, with a proven track record in designing scalable and reliable data architecture.
  • Strong opinion on what good user- and developer experience looks like in your area, and a desire to constantly improve the tools that you use.
  • Experience using AI tools like Claude Code as the default way you write, review and maintain systems.
  • Expertise with data pipeline tools, cloud services, and Snowflake ecosystem.
  • Proven expertise in modeling data using advanced SQL.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Among your personal traits, the following would be helpful in the role:

  • You are a team player, and you enjoy learning and improving the team around you and yourself.
  • You have a strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, curiosity, and daring when venturing into unknown territory.
  • You have strong communication skills: you keep stakeholders up to date, you empathize with user problems, you can rally peers around a solution, and you are not afraid to push for a decision when consensus is hard to reach.

What we offer

  • You will have trust, autonomy, impact as you will own the tools and processes that make a huge difference both inside the org and towards our customers, and we will enable you to make the right decisions instead of holding you back with committee approvals.
  • We have a transparent and open work environment where information is shared openly, everyone is expected to make an impact, and each person is expected to voice their ideas and give feedback directly.
  • You will receive an individual education budget and you can educate yourself during work hours: you can spend several hours each month attending courses, reading books, or getting involved in communities.
  • We provide flexible working hours as well as a generous vacation plan, so you can recharge properly and bring your absolute best to work.
  • If in Bucharest: We offer full-time position employed through GI Group, our staffing partner in Romania.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
