Salesforce Data & File Migration Technical Lead:

Role Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Salesforce Data, File & Legacy Systems Migration Technical Lead to lead complex enterprise data and document migration activities into Salesforce. Hands-On Technical Leadership Expectation This role should be approximately 60–70% hands-on technical execution and 30–40% technical leadership, architecture, review, and coordination.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience migrating structured data and unstructured files/documents from a wide range of legacy platforms, including:

  • Oracle databases
  • SQL Server and other relational databases
  • SharePoint
  • Network and shared file repositories
  • AWS-based repositories and services
  • Legacy case management systems
  • Mainframe or custom enterprise applications
  • Document management systems
  • On-premise databases
  • Cloud-based applications and storage platforms
  • Third-party and internally developed legacy systems

This is a hands-on Technical Lead role. The individual should be able to define the migration architecture, and personally perform analysis, development, troubleshooting, testing, validation, and cutover activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

  • Own the end-to-end technical strategy for Salesforce data and document migration.
  • Lead source-system discovery, data profiling, mapping, transformation, development, testing, reconciliation, and production cutover.
  • Provide technical leadership to Salesforce developers, ETL developers, data engineers, DBAs, AWS resources, integration teams, and business SMEs.
  • Review migration scripts, ETL jobs, mappings, transformation rules, technical designs, and reconciliation processes.
  • Identify migration risks, dependencies, performance issues, data-quality problems, and blockers.
  • Serve as the primary technical escalation point for migration-related issues.

Hands-On Data Migration

  • Personally perform migration analysis, development, troubleshooting, testing, and validation.
  • Extract and analyze data from Oracle, SQL Server, SharePoint, APIs, legacy systems, flat files, and custom applications.
  • Build or review SQL queries, ETL jobs, scripts, APIs, and automated migration processes.
  • Perform data profiling to identify missing, duplicate, invalid, inconsistent, or incomplete records.
  • Develop transformation logic between source-system data structures and Salesforce objects.
  • Troubleshoot Salesforce data-load failures, lookup dependencies, relationships, validation rules, automation conflicts, and API issues.

ETL & Data Integration

  • Design and implement enterprise ETL/ELT solutions supporting Salesforce migration.
  • Develop extraction, transformation, and loading processes across multiple source systems.
  • Create reusable and repeatable ETL frameworks for large-scale migration activities.
  • Implement data cleansing, normalization, enrichment, validation, and exception handling.
  • Support incremental loads, delta migrations, full loads, and production cutover loads.
  • Implement logging, monitoring, error handling, restartability, and reconciliation within ETL processes.
  • Optimize ETL jobs for performance and high-volume data processing.
  • The Technical Lead should understand when to use each migration approach based on data volume, performance, security, automation, and operational requirements.

Legacy Systems Migration

  • Assess data structures and business rules across multiple legacy platforms.
  • Analyze poorly documented or undocumented legacy applications.
  • Develop extraction strategies when standard APIs or interfaces are unavailable.
  • Work with data originating from databases, spreadsheets, CSV, XML, JSON, flat files, APIs, and custom applications.
  • Design migration approaches for historical data with complex relationships and legacy identifiers.
  • Maintain traceability between source-system records and Salesforce target records.

SharePoint & Document Migration

  • Analyze SharePoint sites, libraries, folders, metadata, document structures, and business relationships.
  • Define how legacy documents should map to Salesforce records.
  • Extract documents and metadata from SharePoint and other enterprise repositories.
  • Handle duplicate documents, inconsistent folder structures, missing metadata, versioning, and orphaned files.
  • Preserve appropriate document metadata and business relationships.
  • Validate document counts, metadata, file integrity, and Salesforce record associations after migration.

Database Migration

  • Analyze Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and other relational database schemas.
  • Understand tables, relationships, keys, constraints, and historical structures.
  • Develop complex SQL queries for extraction, profiling, reconciliation, and validation.
  • Handle complex parent-child relationships and referential integrity.
  • Translate normalized or legacy relational data structures into Salesforce object models.

Salesforce Data Migration

  • Define source-to-target mappings between legacy platforms and Salesforce.
  • Understand Salesforce objects, relationships, record types, external IDs, lookups, master-detail relationships, and ownership.
  • Determine migration sequencing and dependencies across related Salesforce objects.
  • Support high-volume migration using Bulk API, Data Loader, Salesforce CLI, ETL tools, APIs, and custom frameworks.
  • Design approaches for maintaining source-system IDs and migration traceability.
  • Validate Salesforce records against source-system data.

AWS & Cloud Integration

  • Work with AWS services supporting migration and integration.
  • Experience with AWS S3, Lambda, API Gateway, Glue, and related services is preferred.
  • Design scalable approaches for processing and moving large volumes of data and documents.
  • Troubleshoot integrations between Salesforce, AWS, databases, ETL tools, and legacy applications.

Data Mapping & Transformation

  • Lead source-to-target data mapping workshops.
  • Define transformation, normalization, cleansing, enrichment, and defaulting rules.
  • Identify source fields that do not have direct Salesforce equivalents.
  • Recommend appropriate Salesforce target designs.
  • Maintain detailed mapping specifications and transformation documentation.
  • Ensure technical and business approval of critical migration decisions.

Data Quality, Validation & Reconciliation

  • Establish comprehensive migration-validation and reconciliation processes.
  • Compare source and target record counts.
  • Perform field-level validation for critical data elements.
  • Validate parent-child and cross-object relationships.
  • Identify missing, duplicate, failed, or incorrectly transformed records.
  • Develop automated reconciliation and exception reports.
  • Validate document counts, metadata, and file integrity.
  • Ensure migrated data can be traced back to its original source system.
  • Provide evidence that migration completeness and accuracy requirements have been met.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of overall data, integration, or enterprise application experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Salesforce data migration experience.
  • Experience acting as a Technical Lead for complex migration initiatives.
  • Strong Salesforce platform knowledge.

  • Experience migrating from SharePoint or enterprise document repositories.
  • Experience migrating from legacy/custom enterprise applications.
  • Experience developing or reviewing migration scripts using SQL, Python, Java, Apex, shell scripting, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform.
  • Strong knowledge of data profiling, cleansing, transformation, mapping, validation, and reconciliation.
  • Experience with large-volume structured and unstructured data migrations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Salesforce Government Cloud experience.
  • Salesforce Service Cloud and/or Experience Cloud experience.
  • Public Sector or government project experience is a strong plus.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
