Job Description

Position: Paralegal II

Location: San Antonio, TX

The Paralegal will provide experienced, hands-on support to Zachry's Legal Department, with a primary focus on litigation support and contract lifecycle management. The role will work closely with in-house counsel, outside counsel, business stakeholders, and workflow owners to help manage legal claims and lawsuits, organize and collect matter-related information, and support disciplined contract formation and administration through Ironclad and its associated AI platform, Jurist. The successful candidate will be proactive, highly organized, comfortable driving accountability across multiple stakeholders, and capable of handling sensitive legal matters with sound judgment and discretion.

Responsibilities

Litigation and Claims Support

  • Coordinate communications and matter activity among in-house counsel, outside counsel, business stakeholders, witnesses, and other participants in connection with legal claims and lawsuits.
  • Receive, organize, maintain, and track legal notices and matter documents, including pleadings, subpoenas, discovery requests, correspondence, and other case materials.
  • Coordinate witness meetings and interviews, including scheduling, document preparation, follow-up, and logistical support.
  • Search for, gather, organize, and preserve documents and information responsive to discovery requests, subpoenas, investigations, and other legal requests, under counsel direction.
  • Assist counsel with matter chronologies, factual development, document review, issue identification, and other materials used to develop legal analysis and strategy.
  • Maintain accurate matter files, tracking tools, deadlines, and supporting documentation, and promptly escalate issues requiring attorney attention.
  • Protect confidential, attorney-client privileged, and attorney work-product information in accordance with Legal Department requirements.

Contract Formation and Lifecycle Management

  • Administer and support contract formation, review, approval, execution, and implementation of workflows in Ironclad and its associated AI platform, Jurist.
  • Develop and maintain contract lifecycle management workflows, including workflows supporting engineering, procurement, and construction contracts.
  • Review and redline initial contract drafts to identify language that does not conform to approved or preferred contract terms and conditions and escalate substantive legal issues to counsel for review and decision.
  • Proactively monitor workflow activity and status to promote timely completion, accurate reporting, and accountability across all participants in the contract formation process.
  • Conduct daily workflow audits to identify matters that have remained open longer than 14 days or are otherwise behind established turnaround expectations.
  • Engage workflow owners through the Ironclad activity feed to determine causes of delay, identify obstacles, document follow-up, and help advance the workflow.
  • Ensure inactive, abandoned, or obsolete workflows are appropriately paused, reassigned, or closed so that system status remains accurate. This includes professional follow-up with legal counsel and other workflow participants, regardless of seniority, to reinforce compliance with established lifecycle processes.
  • Provide the General Counsel with detailed workflow status reporting for delayed workflows, including workflow owner, days outstanding, reason for delay, recommended next action, and escalation needs.
  • Maintain documented outreach and follow-up efforts for delayed workflows.
  • Ensure no workflow remains inactive for more than 30 days without a documented status, resolution plan, pause, reassignment, or closure.
  • Assist with workflow improvements, data quality, templates, playbooks, and process controls designed to improve consistency, efficiency, and visibility across the contract lifecycle.

Qualifications

Qualifications • 3-5+ years of substantive paralegal experience supporting contracts, contract management, litigation, claims, or a comparable combination of those areas. • Demonstrated experience with contract formation and contract administration, including review of contract language, issue identification, redlining, and coordination of review and approval processes. • Demonstrated litigation support experience, including organization of pleadings and legal notices, document collection, discovery and subpoena response support, witness coordination, and interaction with outside counsel. • Experience with contract lifecycle management technology. Experience with Ironclad is strongly preferred; experience using AI-enabled legal technology is also preferred. • Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage numerous concurrent matters and follow through regarding deadlines and open items. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the judgment and confidence to follow up professionally with attorneys, senior stakeholders, and business partners. • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate status information, documentation, and records. • High degree of discretion, integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information. • Ability to work independently, identify issues proactively, escalate appropriately, and collaborate effectively in a team-oriented legal department supporting multiple complex business units. • Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
