Role Summary
We are looking for a sharp, operationally minded AML professional to sit within our second line of defence function. This role exists to bridge the gap between regulatory expectation and operational reality: you will hold deep AML/CTF subject matter expertise and use it to systematically identify where processes fall short — through inefficiency, control gaps, or design flaws — and drive them to a measurably better state. You will challenge the first line with authority, propose solutions with precision, and own the outcome.
Key Responsibilities
- Map and critically assess existing AML/CTF processes end-to-end — CDD, transaction monitoring, screening, SAR, ongoing due diligence — identifying inefficiencies, control weaknesses, duplication, and regulatory exposure.
- Translate findings into structured, prioritised improvement proposals with clear risk rationale, implementation path, ownership, and measurable success criteria.
- Challenge first-line operational teams constructively but rigorously; hold them accountable to regulatory standards and internal policy without becoming an operational bottleneck.
- Act as internal subject matter authority on AML/CTF regulatory requirements and Global best practices; ensure process design decisions are grounded in current regulatory expectation.
- Track implementation of agreed process improvements through to completion; monitor whether changes deliver the intended effect and escalate where they do not.
- Support regulatory examinations, internal audits, and third-line reviews by providing clear, well-evidenced process documentation and subject matter input.
- Contribute to the AFC risk assessment cycle by surfacing process-level control gaps as input to the overall AML/CTF risk picture.
What You Bring
- 7+ years of hands-on AML/CTF experience, with significant exposure to both operational (1LoD) and oversight (2LoD) environments — you understand how processes actually run, not just how they are documented.
- Demonstrable track record of identifying process failures and driving material, measurable improvements in an AML or compliance context.
- Strong working knowledge of AMLD IV/V/VI, FATF Recommendations and EBA AML/CTF Guidelines.
- Structured analytical approach: able to decompose a complex process, identify the critical failure point, and communicate it clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Credible and direct: comfortable challenging senior stakeholders and first-line management with evidence-based positions.
- Experience in a regulated payments, crypto-asset, or fintech environment preferred.
- CAMS, ICA Diploma, or equivalent AML qualification an advantage.
