We are seeking an experienced and dedicated General Sonographer to join our imaging team in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, supporting accurate diagnosis and patient care across multiple clinical areas.
You will work closely with radiologists, consultants, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality imaging services while delivering a compassionate patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general ultrasound examinations, including: Abdominal imaging Gynaecological and early pregnancy scans Small parts imaging (e.g., thyroid, testes, soft tissue) Musculoskeletal scans (where competent) Obstetric imaging (if applicable)
- Accurately document and report findings to the clinical team, highlighting any urgent results.
- Provide clear explanations and reassurance to patients during procedures.
- Maintain and calibrate ultrasound equipment to ensure quality and safety standards.
- Participate in audits, clinical governance, and service improvement initiatives.
- Support the training and mentorship of junior staff and students where applicable.
Qualifications & Experience
- HCPC registration (or eligibility).
- Minimum 12 months’ experience in general sonography preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ultrasound protocols, techniques, and safety standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
