About the Role

Abacus Insights is looking for a Manager, Business and Data Analysis to lead a distributed team of Business and Data Analysts within Client Solutions. This is a hands-on people leadership role requiring prior experience as a manager with direct responsibility for leading, developing, and managing teams. The Manager will lead team members based in Pune as well as other delivery locations, requiring the ability to effectively manage distributed teams across locations and time zones.

You will bring strong experience working with US healthcare payer data, healthcare administration systems, and complex healthcare use cases, with demonstrated exposure to areas such as HEDIS and quality measures, CMS interoperability, risk adjustment, prior authorization, claims, provider, membership and eligibility, and other payer-focused analytics or implementation use cases. You will be accountable for both people leadership and delivery excellence, ensuring the quality of requirements, data analysis, solution design, mapping, and supporting documentation critical to successful client implementations.

This is a working-manager role. You will stay close to client delivery and technical analysis while coaching the team, managing capacity and priorities, resolving escalations, and partnering with Business Solution Managers, Solution Architects, Data Engineering, QA, Product, and Program Management.

Your day to day

Lead the Team

  • Lead, coach, and develop a geographically distributed team of Business and Data Analysts, ensuring strong performance, engagement, and career development.
  • Manage day-to-day people leadership, including performance management, workload allocation, development planning, and succession readiness.
  • Establish clear expectations, operating rhythms, and accountability across locations and time zones to drive consistent communication and delivery.
  • Manage and balance team capacity and priorities across multiple client programs, adjusting resources as business and engagement needs evolve.
  • Establish and reinforce standards, templates, review mechanisms and best practices for requirements gathering, data analysis, source-to-target mapping, solution documentation, and validation.
  • Review and guide team deliverables to ensure requirements and analysis are clear, complete, technically sound, and implementation-ready.

Deliver Client Outcomes

  • Lead complex US healthcare payer data and implementation engagements, providing senior-level oversight across client requirements, analysis, solution design, and delivery.
  • Apply deep payer domain expertise across claims, membership/eligibility, provider, clinical, authorization, benefits, and encounters to guide solutions aligned with broader business objectives.
  • Lead and support healthcare use cases including HEDIS/Stars, CMS interoperability, FHIR, risk adjustment, prior authorization, payment integrity, value-based care, and other payer data initiatives.
  • Translate client business, regulatory, and operational needs into clear business and data requirements, solution designs, mappings, acceptance criteria, and implementation-ready documentation.
  • Guide analysts in data profiling, data-quality analysis, reconciliation, and root-cause investigations, translating complex findings into actionable recommendations and ensuring solutions address the end-to-end business use case.
  • Serve as a senior client-facing domain and analysis lead, facilitating complex requirements discussions, resolving healthcare data and implementation questions, and managing sensitive conversations and delivery escalations.

Stay Hands-On with Delivery

  • Operate as a hands-on working manager, maintaining the technical and delivery depth to review analysis, challenge assumptions, and step into critical workstreams when needed.
  • Use SQL and analytical tools to validate findings, investigate complex data issues, and provide technical guidance to the team.
  • Review key implementation artifacts, including business and technical requirements, data mappings, validation approaches, and acceptance criteria, ensuring quality and implementation readiness.
  • Partner closely with Data Engineering and QA to resolve data mapping, transformation, quality, and implementation challenges.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and scalable problem-solving, ensuring solutions address underlying issues and can be reused across clients and use cases.

Partner Across Delivery

  • Partner with Business Solution Managers, Solution Architects, Product, Engineering, QA, and Program Management to drive alignment and successful client delivery.
  • Ensure seamless hand-offs across requirements, solution design, engineering, QA, UAT, and production support, maintaining clarity and accountability throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Translate effectively between business and technical stakeholders, while communicating delivery status, risks, dependencies, and outcomes to senior leadership.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for client, domain, requirements, and data-analysis issues, driving timely resolution of complex concerns.
  • Drive continuous process improvement across the team and provide support for QA, client delivery, and production/application support as needed.

What you bring to the team

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in Business Analysis, Data Analysis, healthcare consulting/technology, or related roles, with strong exposure to the US healthcare payer domain.
  • Proven people management experience, including leading and developing geographically distributed teams and managing team capacity, priorities, and delivery risks.
  • Strong knowledge of US payer data and business processes, including claims, provider, membership/eligibility, prior authorization, encounters, clinical, and benefits data across Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial plans.
  • Hands-on experience with payer-focused use cases and regulatory initiatives such as HEDIS/Stars, risk adjustment, prior authorization, CMS interoperability, FHIR, and other healthcare interoperability standards.
  • Strong SQL and healthcare data analysis skills, with experience working with large, complex datasets and modern data platforms such as Databricks and/or Snowflake.
  • Experience with healthcare data modeling, data profiling, reconciliation, root-cause analysis, and data-quality investigations, including understanding dataset grain, relationships, and downstream implications.
  • Strong experience gathering and translating business and data requirements into implementation-ready requirements, mappings, designs, acceptance criteria, and validation approaches.
  • Proven client-facing experience, including leading requirements discussions and communicating effectively with senior business and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple client engagements and competing priorities in a fast-paced delivery environment.

What We’d Like to See, but Not Required

  • Experience with additional payer use cases such as payment integrity, value-based care, provider analytics, care management, utilization management, or population health.
  • Experience with Python or similar analytical/automation technologies.
  • Experience with BI and visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Experience growing teams, developing future leaders, and supporting hiring and succession planning.
  • Experience working within consulting, client implementation, or SaaS/data-platform delivery organizations.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable operating with limited supervision in complex delivery environments.
  • Strong commitment to staying current with US healthcare regulations, payer priorities, data standards, interoperability requirements, and emerging technologies.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
