The posting

Celebrating 85 Years of Building With Purpose

At Absher Construction, we’re proud to celebrate over 85 years as one of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected general contractors. As a 100% employee-owned company, we believe our people are our greatest asset and we invest in them like it! From fully paid medical premiums for employees, to a generous PTO policy, 401(k) and ESOP retirement benefits, we offer a total rewards package that reflects the pride and ownership we bring to every project.

As a Safety Manager (SSHO), you’ll lead safety implementation on federal construction projects while serving as the on-site authority for safety compliance. You’ll ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with the project’s Accident Prevention Plan (APP), EM 385-1-1 requirements, and all applicable federal and state regulations.

In this role, you’ll work closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, subcontractors, and craft teams to identify hazards early, reinforce safe work practices, and maintain a strong, people-first safety culture on the jobsite.

This position requires a visible field presence, strong technical knowledge of federal safety requirements, and the ability to partner with project teams to embed safety into daily operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Implement and enforce the project Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Site Specific Safety Plans
  • Ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and all project safety requirements
  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, hazard analyses, and incident investigations
  • Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and daily safety engagement with field teams
  • Review and coordinate subcontractor safety plans and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
  • Maintain required safety documentation, reports, and project safety records
  • Serve as the designated “Competent Person” for applicable safety disciplines
  • Partner with Superintendents and Project Managers to integrate safety into daily work planning
  • Identify hazards early and work with teams to mitigate risks before work begins
  • Act as the primary safety liaison between the project team, subcontractors, and the client or governing agency

Why You’ll Be Successful

You’re a visible and proactive safety leader who believes strong safety performance starts with trust and accountability. You thrive in the field environment, communicate clearly with crews and leadership, and understand how to balance regulatory compliance with practical jobsite solutions.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience with at least 3 years on federal or EM 385 governed projects
  • Experience serving as an SSHO or equivalent role on federal construction projects preferred
  • Strong knowledge of EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and federal safety compliance requirements
  • OSHA 30 certification required
  • First Aid / CPR certification required
  • Documented safety training consistent with EM 385 SSHO requirements
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, hazard analyses, and incident investigations
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence field teams and subcontractors

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
