The posting

About the role Dr. Martens has a distinctive place in footwear, with an iconic product range and a loyal customer base. We’re looking for a Merchandise Planner on a fixed term 12 month parental leave contract who can help drive the next stage of the brand’s growth across Australia and New Zealand. Reporting to the Head of Planning, you’ll partner closely with Buyers to shape the merchandise strategy, optimise stock investment and drive sales and gross profit. You’ll combine strong financial planning with a clear understanding of product performance, ensuring the right styles, sizes and stock levels are in place to meet demand. What you’ll do

Build and manage Merchandise Financial Plans (MFPs) and WSSIs, aligning stock investment with sales and profit targets.

Partner with Buyers on range planning, option plans and OTB to support a commercially strong product assortment.

Analyse performance across Dr. Martens’ core styles, seasonal collections and key product launches to identify opportunities and risks.

Manage stock levels, sell-through, markdowns and aged inventory to maximise profitability.

Lead monthly replans, using current trading performance to refine sales, gross profit and stock forecasts.

Track performance against budget, plan and prior year, providing clear recommendations to the Buying and Planning teams.

Identify opportunities to improve product distribution and availability across stores and channels.

Monitor product flow and inventory levels to ensure key styles and sizes are available where customer demand is strongest.

Lead and develop a planning team, building capability and driving strong commercial outcomes.

What we’re looking for:

5+ years’ experience in Merchandise Planning, ideally within footwear, fashion or high-volume retail.

Experience leading and developing a planning team.

Strong commercial and financial acumen, with a solid understanding of stock investment, margin and inventory management.

Experience with MFPs, WSSIs, OTB, forecasting and merchandise reporting.

An analytical mindset, with the ability to turn trading data into clear commercial actions.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective partnerships with Buyers and key stakeholders.

A relevant degree is preferred but not essential.

A proactive approach, strong attention to detail and a Make It Happen attitude

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
