The posting

We are looking for an experienced Crew Training & Establishment Planning Manager to lead our Crew Training Planning function and help shape how we plan, manage and deliver crew training across AirTanker.

This is a senior operational role with responsibility for the strategic oversight of ground, flight and simulator training planning, alongside crew establishment planning. You will ensure training activity supports operational requirements while meeting regulatory and contractual standards.

Why AirTanker?

AirTanker is a vital part of the UK’s defence capability, delivering air-to-air refuelling and air transport services to the RAF and MOD. We operate at the intersection of military precision and commercial innovation. As a Crew Training & Establishment Planning Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring AirTanker has the right crew capability and training plans in place to support operational delivery. Working closely with Flight Operations, Cabin Services, RAF stakeholders and training partners, you will lead crew training and establishment planning across the business. Your work will directly support safe, compliant and effective delivery of the flying programme.

Whats in it for you?

  • Operational Impact: Play an important role in ensuring crew capability and training plans support the safe and effective delivery of our flying programme.
  • Leadership: Lead and develop the Crew Training function, building capability and supporting succession across the team
  • Strategic Influence: Shape long-term crew training and establishment planning, working across Flight Operations, Cabin Services and key operational stakeholders
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Including private medical insurance, bonus scheme, EV scheme, contributory pension, and more.
  • Adventure & Belonging: Battlefield tours, adventure training, and family fun days.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the Crew Training function, including resource planning, team development and performance.
  • Overseeing the development and continuous improvement of training plans, ground school delivery and training records.
  • Supporting long-term crew establishment planning with Flight Operations and Cabin Services to maintain appropriate crew levels.
  • Leading the development and delivery of the annual IATP alongside key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Overseeing compliance, standards and validation activity, including controls, audits and reporting.
  • Building strong relationships across AirTanker, the RAF and our external training suppliers.
  • Overseeing the Crew Training Error Log process, including investigation, root cause analysis and preventative actions.
  • Representing Crew Training at senior forums and aligning training requirements with crewing and operational demands.
  • Maintaining effective governance across Crew Training processes and documentation.
  • Driving continuous improvement across efficiency, flexibility, safety and performance.
  • Promoting a strong safety, quality and compliance culture across the function.

What you'll bring

  • Strong leadership experience, including coaching, people development and performance management.
  • Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving skills.
  • A good understanding of crewing systems and data-led decision-making.
  • In-depth knowledge of CAA Training Regulations, Flight Time Limitations and Fatigue Risk Management principles.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience influencing at senior levels.
  • Strong organisational skills and experience delivering within a complex, regulated operational environment.
  • The ability to make sound, risk-based decisions and provide clear direction under pressure.
  • A high standard of written and spoken English.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.
