POSITION OVERVIEW

Alarm.com, a rapidly growing and entrepreneurial technology company, is seeking a Business Development Manager for Japan to join our International team. This role is responsible for developing new business opportunities, managing and expanding relationships with partners across the Asian market, and supporting the adoption and growth of our B2B2C technology and service ecosystem.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic commercial professional with strong hunting skills and the ability to nurture and grow existing accounts. Experience in alarm monitoring, SaaS, IoT, or cloud-based solutions is preferred but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Business Development Manager for Japan will be responsible for:

  • Prospecting, identifying, and closing new business opportunities with integrators, distributors, central monitoring stations, and strategic partners.
  • Maintaining, strengthening, and expanding long-term relationships with assigned accounts and new clients.
  • Driving adoption and growth of Alarm.com’s platform, cloud services, and connected solutions within partner organizations.
  • Conducting regular in-person visits, presentations, demos, and business reviews with partners across Japan, Philippines, Guam and Vietnam.
  • Developing strategic account plans for key partners, aligned to commercial goals and market potential.
  • Collaborating with internal teams (product, marketing, operations, technical account management, technical support) to ensure successful partner onboarding and ongoing engagement.
  • Monitoring market trends, identifying opportunities for expansion, and providing feedback to internal teams.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Based in Tokyo (major metropolitan areas preferred).
  • 5+ years of relevant sales or business development experience, ideally in technology or related industries.
  • Proven ability to operate as both a hunter and a relationship builder.
  • Ability to travel up to 60–70% within Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, and Guam to engage with dealer and channel partners.
  • Fluency in Japanese, both written and verbal, and strong English language.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient and up-to-date knowledge of cloud technologies, IoT, connected devices, and SaaS business models (experience in these areas is preferred but not mandatory).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a natural customer-service orientation; must enjoy working with clients and supporting internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent consultative selling and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and commitment to meeting deadlines, even during high-volume periods.
  • Flexible, positive attitude that fosters teamwork and collaboration.
  • Preferred experience (not required): alarm monitoring services, electronic security, access control, home automation, video over IP, telecommunications, utilities, insurance, or any recurring-revenue business model.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
