Strategic Research is a central function at Alleima supporting all product areas through long-term research and innovation. With decades of metallurgical expertise and a commitment to innovation, we are seeking a passionate and forward-thinking R&D Specialist to join our New Alloys team. Together, we combine deep metallurgical knowledge with advanced research methods to develop the next generation of stainless-steel materials. We run projects from a lean product development standpoint, focusing on knowledge building. After reaching proof of concept, the projects are handed over to product development for a large-scale ramp-up.

Are you passionate about materials research and development and eager to contribute to the next generation of advanced stainless-steel materials? You might be the person we are looking for. Apply today!

Placement: Sandviken

Your Role

As an R&D Specialist in the New Alloys team you will be part of a group with deep knowledge from several different technical areas important for successful alloy development such as advanced material characterization, thermodynamic modelling, corrosion science, powder metallurgy, and hot working. The strength of the team lies in combining our skills, sharing knowledge, and working together in an open and collaborative atmosphere.

Your task is to participate in, lead, and identify alloy development projects, knowledge-building pre-studies, or other investigations in line with Alleima’s strategic research plan. You deliver results according to agreements and present your research in an accurate and structured manner through e.g. internal technical reports, project meetings, and steering group meetings. You will be an important contact person for material development and represent Alleima in external research projects in collaboration with institutions and universities.

Since our projects and assignments are based on technical requirements from both external customers and our internal organization, an important part of the role is to collaborate and communicate with multiple stakeholders, and build strong, long-term relationships.

About you

We are looking for someone with a Master of Science (MSc.) degree or a PhD in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Technical Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, combined with several years of industrial research experience within the stainless-steel industry, preferably in product or process development of high-alloy stainless steels or nickel-based alloys. Previous project management experience, particularly in alloy development, is advantageous.

You bring in-depth expertise in one or more areas relevant to alloy development. This may include production processes, such as casting or hot-working and their limitations and possibilities related to alloy development, product requirements and knowledge such as high-temperature corrosion, wet corrosion or mechanical properties related to stainless steel materials in demanding environments.

You are familiar with common characterization techniques used in materials development, such as LOM and SEM, and have a solid understanding of the relationship between microstructure and material properties

We value your passion and personality characterized by your analytical and problem-solving mindset. As a person, you are structured, thorough, and driven, with the ability to identify opportunities, critically evaluate results, and see projects through to completion. In a determined and independent manner, you plan and drive the work forward but are flexible when the situation requires it. Your communicative and collaborative manner allows you to easily share your competencies and results with the rest of the team. All in all, you are a person who can do both hands-on technical work and move projects forward in a pedagogical and inclusive way. You have excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, preferably in both Swedish and English as we operate in an international environment.

What you can expect from us

At Alleima, you will be part of a global organization where collaboration, curiosity and continuous development are at the heart of what we do. We believe that diverse perspectives and an inclusive workplace help us make better decisions, create new opportunities and grow together.

Our values guide us in everything we do: We Care, We Deliver and We Evolve. Together, we take responsibility, challenge ourselves to improve and support each other in making a difference.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
