The posting

Amazon Web Services is seeking a Controls Engineer, Power Loops to develop and validate advanced control algorithms for SST power-conversion loops, with emphasis on stability, dynamic response and high-power converter behavior.

As a Controls Engineer, Power Loops you will develop and tune current/voltage/power loops (PI, MPC, passivity-based) with state-space models and stability analysis on a defined scope. You will secure stability margins and dynamic response, decoupling and disturbance rejection across operating points and converter paralleling. You will work with FPGA/DSP and embedded engineers to deploy loops in real time and correlates model predictions to lab measurement.

About AIS AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Key job responsibilities Control development: - Develop PI, model-predictive and passivity-based control approaches as appropriate to the converter. - Build state-space models and perform stability analysis. - Tune current, voltage and power loops for dynamic and steady-state performance.

Simulation & implementation: - Use MATLAB/Simulink and Control Toolbox to design and evaluate control algorithms. - Work with FPGA/DSP and embedded engineers to translate algorithms into real-time implementations. - Correlate model predictions with laboratory measurements.

System behavior: - Analyze dynamic load response relevant to variable AI compute workloads. - Support converter paralleling, current sharing and fault-management strategies. - Investigate instability, oscillation and transient-performance issues.

SST System Alignment: - Design control loops to meet the system LVDC regulation targets (±1% static and ±3% dynamic, with ±0.5% switching ripple) and the specified overload/fault behavior. - Develop control strategies for VRT/FRT, MVAC load acceptance/rejection, ESS coordination, redundancy and dynamic power sharing.

A day in the life As a Controls Engineer, Power Loops, you'll focus on developing and refining control algorithms for solid-state transformer power-conversion systems. Your day might include building state-space models in MATLAB/Simulink to analyze system stability, collaborating with embedded and FPGA engineers to translate your algorithms into real-time implementations, and correlating your model predictions with laboratory measurements to validate performance.

You'll investigate dynamic responses under variable compute workloads, troubleshoot oscillation and transient-performance issues, and work to ensure our systems meet strict regulation targets. Beyond routine development, you'll contribute to solving system-level challenges like converter paralleling strategies and fault-management approaches that require creative problem-solving across multiple engineering disciplines.

About the team We are the team that keeps the cloud running. AWS Infrastructure Services designs, plans, delivers, and operates all AWS global infrastructure—the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the services they depend on. Our team tackles some of the most complex engineering challenges, with thousands of variables impacting our systems. We collaborate closely with power-electronics specialists, embedded systems engineers, and hardware teams to develop solutions that scale across our worldwide data centers. We're building the next generation of power-conversion technology, and we're looking for collaborative problem-solvers who are excited about contributing to infrastructure that powers global innovation.

Why AWS? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
