The posting

Help brands shape how customers discover and choose their products on Amazon! We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to define how brands work with Amazon to share, organize, and manage relationships between their products, including product variations, collections, versions, lineups, and more. Your work will build a durable partnership with brands that is predictable and transparent, and that delights both selling partners and customers.

Amazon's catalog powers every shopping experience across our platform. As the authority for product data, we enable customers to find what they're looking for while empowering selling partners to showcase their products effectively. Product variations (such as different colors, sizes, flavors, and quantities of a product) are a vital part of Amazon's shopping experience. Managing variations at Amazon's scale is challenging due to the unique trade-offs and complexities that come with operating a marketplace across millions of independent selling partners. Brands are the experts on their own products and understand best how to organize and merchandise these products. However, customers expect a consistent and intuitive experience for discovering product variations across all brands, selling partners, categories, and countries. Balancing the needs of both brands and customers while delivering a trustworthy listing and shopping experience at worldwide scale is a hard e-commerce problem.

As the single-threaded leader for this space, you will define the strategic vision for how product variations are managed in Amazon's catalog and reimagine how brands partner with Amazon to share, validate, and improve their variations. You will develop a deep understanding of the business and technical complexities that come with ingesting, validating, and reconciling variation relationships for billions of products across millions of selling partners, worldwide. You will act as the voice of the brand and relentlessly seek opportunities for simplification, transparency, and explainability in Amazon's variations ecosystem. You will participate in roundtables and direct conversations with brands and selling partners to understand their pain points and obtain feedback. You will partner closely with senior engineering, science, and product leaders to redefine catalog interfaces and policies for variations management, and re-architect core systems to accommodate your vision. You will influence a variety of stakeholders across Amazon, including the listing experience, shopping experience, selection policy, customer trust, and category and business leaders. You will expand Amazon's engagement with brands beyond product variations to other types of merchandising knowledge (such as product lineups, newer versions, and collections) which will power both our established and next-generation agentic shopping experiences.

This role demands someone who thrives in ambiguity, is comfortable with technical complexity, and leads through influence. You will often start without a bounded problem and turn complex business challenges into clear product strategies. You will be required to evaluate long-standing constraints and trade-offs, and drive clarity and alignment on a shared vision across diverse organizations. You will join a team of tenured technical and product leaders working in Amazon's core catalog systems and own the end-to-end product roadmap for this area. Your deep retail expertise and e-commerce understanding will be essential to delivering measurable impact.

Key job responsibilities - Own the multi-year strategic vision and roadmap for how brands share, organize, and manage product variations and other merchandising relationships in Amazon's catalog - Define how Amazon partners with brands to share, validate, and improve their variations, delivering simplicity, transparency, and explainability as the voice of the brand - Operate in highest-ambiguity environments where problems are undefined and you are expected to drive clarity and build consensus across organizations - Bring technical fluency in distributed systems, catalog data models, and AI/ML technologies to redefine catalog interfaces and influence the technical architecture - Partner with senior engineering, science, and product leaders to build mechanisms that make brand and customer friction visible and systematically reducible at catalog scale - Distinguish between one-way and two-way doors to enable smart risk-taking and innovation - Drive strategic decisions on whether to invent, deprecate, or simplify, owning results and demonstrating excellent judgment in escalations - Stay abreast of relevant development and innovation occurring both inside and outside the company and use that knowledge to inspire big ideas - Amplify your impact by mentoring other leaders and educating the product and engineering communities through internal talks and knowledge sharing

- Bachelor's degree - 10+ years of technical product or program management experience - Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition - Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product - Experience working with and influencing senior level stakeholders

- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative/technical field such as computer science, engineering, statistics - Deep understanding of retail business, category dynamics, and customer shopping behavior - Experience with catalog systems, product data management, or e-commerce platforms at scale - Deep understanding of data modeling, semantic systems, and AI/ML applications in data quality

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
