**Productivity team**

Productivity(生産性) teamは、人員計画から入荷・仕分け・積み込み・出発までの倉庫内オペレーションの一連の工程を対象に、TPH(Throughput per Hour:1時間当たりの処理量を示す生産性指標)の改善をリードするプロセス改善のスペシャリストです。

**PI team**

**Lean excellence team**

**【Career path】**

At Amazon, we actively incorporate the latest AI and generative AI tools into our daily work. These tools accelerate the speed of our decision-making and allow us to focus on the judgments and discussions that truly matter. Because a culture of continuous learning is embedded at Amazon, resources are available for you to deepen your knowledge of AI at your own pace.

The Amazon Customer Excellence System (ACES) team is hiring a Process Improvement Manager to drive process improvement across our operations end to end, from first mile through last mile.

**Role and responsibilities**

The ACES team improves the safety, quality, and productivity of in-building operations end to end, from first mile sites such as fulfillment centers and sort centers through last mile sites such as delivery stations, building the mechanisms that ensure customers receive their orders when they need them and thereby elevating the customer experience. To raise the efficiency of in-building operations, we drive the introduction of new systems and mechanisms as well as improvement projects. We adapt systems and mechanisms newly deployed elsewhere in Amazon's global network to sites in Japan, lead their rollout, and then validate and refine them through both data analysis and on-site observation. With an end-to-end understanding of in-building operations, we identify the items that raise safety, quality, and productivity and drive improvement. We quantify waste from operational data and on-site observation, set priorities, and run improvement cycles. We standardize solutions with scalability in mind so they can be applied at every site, and scale them across the network. You will deliver this work in partnership with site leaders and stakeholders across the business.

We are looking for candidates who, in any industry, have taken the initiative to solve business process problems themselves. Specifically, experience not only analyzing data extracted from systems to identify problems, but also driving countermeasures and improvements based on facts gathered on site, leading the work while engaging many stakeholders. Our team includes members from manufacturing, consulting, and other backgrounds in addition to logistics. Approximately half of your working days will involve on-site work, including business travel.

**Team introduction**

The ACES team is a group of specialists in process design and improvement. We use data analysis and Lean methods to identify the root causes of problems and deliver fundamental improvement by changing the design of the process itself. Our scope extends beyond front-line task improvement to every factor that drives the performance of in-building operations, including inbound planning, labor planning, shift design, and associate deployment. Through best-practice sharing across sites and standardization, we support the continuous development of the entire network.

A defining characteristic of ACES is that we do not confine ourselves to our own remit. To ensure Amazon's business and operations improve continuously from first mile through last mile, we engage proactively with challenges across the business, building cross-functional mechanisms to drive improvement. Where the situation or business need calls for it, we lead projects ourselves even when another organization is the nominal owner, in order to accelerate problem solving.

The team consists of three sub-teams with distinct roles:

**Productivity team**

The Productivity team leads improvement of TPH (Throughput per Hour, the productivity metric for units processed per hour) across the end-to-end in-building flow, from labor planning through inbound, sortation, loading, and dispatch. Through data analysis and on-site observation, the team quantitatively identifies the key levers and processes that drive productivity and delivers durable improvement. It supports sites whose performance is lagging, extracts best practices from top-performing sites and scales them across the network, and achieves fundamental improvement by changing the mechanism of the process itself. Drawing on deep process knowledge, the team also develops and provides the deep-dive tools operations teams use for day-to-day improvement, dynamically reprioritizing toward the areas with the largest impact and moving with a strong bias for action.

**PI team**

The PI (Process Improvement) team is a group of experts in in-building operational processes who deliver continuous productivity gains and sustainable growth across the Japan Operations network through data-driven analysis and process optimization, grounded in going to the actual place to see the actual thing. The team leads or supports every cross-functional initiative spanning first mile through last mile operations, providing deep process expertise, quantitative evaluation using Lean methods, and optimal process design and standardization that eliminates overburden, unevenness, and waste. Even for initiatives owned by other organizations, the team takes a network-wide view to judge where course correction is needed and leads the work when necessary. It provides the support operations need for standards to take hold, and owns delivery through to network-wide rollout. The team also maintains an integrated view of every initiative affecting our processes, builds short-, mid-, and long-term productivity plans, and secures alignment with business leadership to create the strategic roadmap that underpins sustainable growth.

**Lean excellence team**

The Lean excellence team brings Lean Six Sigma expertise. Members statistically analyze waste and variation in processes and execute improvement through DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control). The team plans and manages continuous improvement activity across the network, embedding the DMAIC methodology, raising problem-solving capability, and accumulating quick wins. It builds and refines the mechanism that screens improvement ideas submitted from the front line by impact and difficulty, and drives their rollout across the network. The team also prepares training materials such as Lean Practitioner and Six Sigma curricula and supports talent development through workshops, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement by designing and running recognition programs such as Kaizen of the Year and improvement awards.

**Career path**

What makes ACES most compelling is the opportunity to leverage Amazon's resources in North America and Europe, at the leading edge of digitalization, to lead the design of new logistics business models with significant impact on the Japanese market. From identifying problems through data analysis, to designing the process that should exist, to executing on the front line, to standardizing and deploying across sites nationwide: an environment where analysis and execution are not separated, and where a single owner can lead the work end to end, is something only a limited number of organizations in a logistics network of this scale can offer.

ACES is also not confined to a single site or a single function. We drive projects with a view across the entire nationwide operations network, from first mile through last mile. The answer that is optimal for the site in front of you is not always the answer that is optimal for the network. Discerning that gap naturally builds your ability to decide for the whole rather than the local optimum.

Because you will contribute to a wide range of cross-functional projects spanning first mile through last mile operations, you will develop business acumen and strategic thinking through project management, on top of your operational improvement skills. Starting from "why are we doing this" rather than simply executing, engaging many stakeholders, and carrying the work through to a finished result is experience that translates directly into growth not only as a process improvement expert, but as a future leader of a business or a team.

Working with international colleagues, you will also gain exposure to advanced industry trends, diverse ways of thinking, improvement approaches, and a broad professional network. Through each project you will collaborate with members at sites across Japan, and by observing actual in-building and delivery operations you will experience first-hand how our work improves the customer experience in local communities.
