The posting

Amazon's Global Environmental Assurance and Protection team works to make Amazon the global benchmark for environmental excellence across our operations. As the NA Water Program Manager, you own the lifecycle of Amazon's most complex water compliance programs across North America and translate an ambiguous, fast-moving regulatory landscape into program frameworks the field can execute. That scope covers water quality and discharge compliance, stormwater and wastewater management, water stewardship and conservation, and emerging water regulatory obligations across the NA region. You take partially defined business problems and regulatory requirements and turn them into structured programs with clear objectives, milestones, and success criteria, owning each program through its pilot, prove, and scale phases.

As an individual contributor, you own the strategic definition and lifecycle management of these water programs. You decompose ambiguous challenges into program plans that account for real field constraints, define what "done" looks like, and design the systems, processes, and tools, with measurement built in, that the field organization adopts and sustains without ongoing program-level intervention. You partner with Legal, regulatory affairs, operations, technology, and procurement to keep programs aligned with the operating model, and you contribute to OP1 and OP2 narratives while owning organizational goals within the NA water program portfolio.

You identify and influence cross-functional investments that solve long-term water compliance requirements, negotiating resources, priorities, and timelines across organizations. You build business cases with quantified risk and ROI, present them to Director and VP audiences, and represent EAP in cross-functional planning cadences so that water compliance requirements are embedded in business decisions. You own program controllership mechanisms, business review cadences, escalation paths, and metric dashboards, that surface risk and drive accountability in real time, and you independently proxy for the Senior Manager in business reviews and cross-functional forums with full ownership.

This role requires independent judgment, a high tolerance for ambiguity, and the ability to find a path forward where solutions are not pre-defined, driving cross-functional alignment without deferring decisions upward. You communicate technical compliance requirements clearly to executive, operational, and legal audiences, and you use data and business intelligence to look around corners, spotting and mitigating risk before it materializes. If you are motivated by solving complex regulatory problems at scale and building the compliance infrastructure to match, this role is for you.

Key job responsibilities - Translate the NA water compliance vision into executable program frameworks, integrating program objectives into OP1, OP2, and quarterly planning cycles across in-scope business units. - Own the lifecycle of NA water compliance programs, including water quality, discharge, stormwater, and wastewater, taking each from problem definition through pilot, prove, and scale. - Contribute to multi-year operating plans and program budget inputs, and recommend resource allocation trade-offs that balance immediate compliance obligations against long-term infrastructure investment. - Design and operate program controllership mechanisms, business review cadences, escalation paths, and metric dashboards, that surface and mitigate water compliance risk and drive accountability across internal and external stakeholders without requiring manager intervention. - Communicate compliance program status, risks, and escalations clearly and concisely to Director and VP-level audiences across Operations, Legal, Finance, and Technology, and independently proxy for the Senior Manager in WBRs, MBRs, and cross-functional forums. - Partner with Amazon Legal, state and local regulators, environmental consultants, and technology teams to resolve water compliance barriers, accelerate engineered solutions, and reduce manual dependency in compliance execution. - Define and implement KPI and compliance metric frameworks that provide real-time visibility into water program performance, milestone achievement, and regulatory posture across in-scope business units. - Build data-driven business cases with quantified risk and ROI to secure cross-functional investment, negotiating priorities and timelines across organizations. - Oversee work performed by third-party contractors, consultants, and inspection vendors, holding external partners accountable to program milestones and quality standards through structured audit and governance mechanisms. - Work autonomously in a highly ambiguous, high-stakes regulatory environment, exercising independent judgment to find paths forward where solutions are not pre-defined and driving cross-functional alignment without deferring decisions upward. - Embed water compliance objectives into day-to-day operational rhythms and design mechanisms the field sustains without ongoing program-level intervention. - Travel expected up to 25-50% of the time.

- 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience - 5+ years of program or project Management experience - Experience owning program strategy, end-to-end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership - Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) or related field

- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification - Master's degree in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) or related field - Experience developing and implementing water compliance programs, for example water quality, discharge, stormwater, and wastewater, in accordance with applicable laws - Professional water credential where applicable, for example a Professional Engineer (PE) with a water or wastewater focus, a Certified Water Professional, or an equivalent professional environmental certification - Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management system design, implementation, or certification

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
