The Alexa Shopping team in Bangalore is looking for a Software Development Manager to lead engineering efforts in building AI-powered shopping experiences that help millions of customers save time and money every day.

You will lead a team that leverages Generative AI to build features that anticipate what customers need before they ask, help them evaluate products with confidence, and unify Alexa Shopping and Rufus customer communication across Echo devices, Alexa App, and Alexa.com. Your work will directly impact executive-level goals and shape how hundreds of millions of customers shop worldwide.

We operate in a high-performance, co-located agile ecosystem where SDEs, SDMs, and Product Managers frequently connect with end customers. Our engineering team significantly influences the product roadmap, contributes to PRFAQs, and creates disproportionate impact through innovative technology. We operate like a start-up within the Amazon ecosystem, pioneering products and services that are new to Amazon with opportunities to scale globally.

Our roadmap through 2027 is well defined, and the problems ahead are real: new device endpoints, additional channels, and higher customer expectations. If you want to lead a team whose work customers rely on every single day, this is the role.

Key job responsibilities - Lead and grow a software development team, setting technical direction and establishing team structure to deliver on a multi-year roadmap for the Post-Purchase experience across Alexa endpoints and channels. - Define and drive the architecture for distributed, low-latency services at massive scale that power real-time tracking, proactive notifications, and post-delivery experiences for millions of customers. - Partner with product management, applied science, and peer engineering teams to prioritize features, resolve cross-team dependencies, and ship cohesive solutions that reduce friction in the post-purchase journey. - Establish operational metrics and quality mechanisms to measure customer experience, system health, and team delivery velocity, using data to inform roadmap tradeoffs and continuous improvement. - Coach and develop engineers across multiple levels, creating growth plans, providing actionable feedback, and building an inclusive team culture where people do their best work.

About the team Our team is building the unified proactive communication layer for Alexa Shopping, ensuring every customer experiences one coordinated, trusted conversation with Alexa across Echo devices, mobile, email, and emerging endpoints. We own the orchestration that determines what reaches the customer, when, and on which surface. Our team values deep customer empathy, technical ambition, and cross-org collaboration. We are looking for builders who want to define the future of proactive, agentic commerce at Amazon.

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience - 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience - 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience - Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations - Experience partnering with product or program management teams

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy - Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers - Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science - 3+ years of distributed system management experience - Experience using English communication skills, both written and verbal, to foster seamless interaction with stakeholders at all levels - Experience in developing and executing an analytic vision to solve business-relevant problems - Deep hands-on technical expertise
