Amazon's Global Real Estate and Facilities (GREF) team is seeking an innovative and experienced Senior Global Engineering Manager – Mechanical/BMS to lead the technical strategy, standards, and optimization of mechanical and Building Management Systems (BMS)/controls across our global corporate office portfolio. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for a mechanical or controls engineering specialist. You will own the mechanical and building automation backbone (HVAC, central plant, BMS/BAS, sequences of operation, fault detection) for the global GREF portfolio, while partnering across the broader MEP disciplines.
The ideal candidate combines deep, demonstrable expertise in mechanical systems and building controls with strong leadership and strategic thinking. You are fluent in the language of open-protocol building automation — BACnet, Modbus, Niagara/Tridium — and you can read a sequence of operations, interrogate a controls submittal, and diagnose why a system is not performing. You will develop and execute global engineering initiatives that enhance workplace environments, improve operational efficiency, and advance sustainability goals, navigating complex stakeholder relationships and making data-driven decisions that balance innovation with cost-effectiveness at a global scale.
Key job responsibilities - Standards & specifications — Develop and maintain global controls/BMS and mechanical design standards, guidelines, and specifications — including sequences of operation, points lists, and naming/tagging conventions — for new construction and retrofits. - Automation architecture — Define open-protocol BMS architecture (BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus, Niagara/FOX, MQTT), network topology, and integration; partner with InfoSec and IT on OT network security and data governance. - Operations & maintenance — Lead operational guidelines and SOPs for mechanical systems, controls, and equipment. - Performance & FDD — Establish fault detection & diagnostics, trending, and analytics to drive optimization and energy efficiency across the portfolio. - Technical leadership — Provide SME support to regional teams on complex mechanical and controls issues, including commissioning, Test and Balance (TAB), and root-cause failure analysis. - Lifecycle & modernization — Develop strategies for equipment lifecycle management, preventive maintenance, and system modernization. - Sustainability — Advance corporate environmental goals through mechanical and BMS initiatives. - Technology & innovation — Evaluate and recommend new building systems, controls, and smart-building technologies. - Metrics & vendors — Set KPIs and track portfolio improvements; partner with procurement on equipment/controls-vendor standards, qualification, and performance. - Strategy & growth — Support due diligence for acquisitions and renovations, deliver technical training, and shape long-term strategy and capital planning.
- 5+ years of program management or technical project management experience - Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent - 10+ years of experience in building systems engineering
- Experience in data analysis, with the ability to interpret and draw insights from data to inform decision-making processes - Professional Engineering (PE) license - Certifications such as LEED, PMP, CEM, and/or HBDP. - Deep hands-on experience with BMS/BAS platforms and open protocols — Tridium/Niagara (FOX), BACnet, Modbus — including programming, commissioning, and integration. - Experience with fault detection & diagnostics (FDD) and building analytics platforms (e.g., SkySpark) and using building data to drive optimization. - Experience with OT network architecture and building-systems cybersecurity/InfoSec coordination. - Experience directly related to the design or construction of commercial office buildings. - Experience managing engineering programs for large, global real estate portfolios. - International project experience.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
