The posting

The Tactical Automation Group (TAG) within Operations Infrastructure Services (OIS) is looking for an experienced Systems Development Engineer to join the team in Austin. TAG develops and operates the automation services that connect Amazon's 2,300+ fulfillment sites to the cloud. Our software orchestrates infrastructure deployments across thousands of AWS accounts, manages the lifecycle of network devices at fleet scale, and ensures every new site gets connectivity without human intervention. If our systems don't run, sites don't connect and packages don't move.

We own multiple production services spanning site connectivity orchestration, device management, VPN automation, and infrastructure control plane operations. Our systems are built on AWS serverless technologies (Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, Fargate, CloudFormation, CloudWAN) and operate across thousands of AWS accounts serving a global fleet.

Key job responsibilities In the TAG team, the System Development Engineer (SysDE) plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and secure operation of Amazon's FC solutions. The ideal candidate will:

- Identify business problems, gather data, propose solutions, and lead implementation across distributed automation services operating at fleet scale - Design scalable backend systems and APIs that integrate with Amazon's network infrastructure - Lead the development and maintenance of serverless control plane systems (using AWS Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, Fargate, CloudFormation, CloudWAN) that orchestrate multi-account infrastructure deployments, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance - Partner closely with Network Engineering, site onboarding teams, and cross-functional infrastructure teams to deliver scalable, self-service, zero-touch solutions for network provisioning and management - Participate in on-call rotations to ensure high availability of critical onboarding systems - Write clean, maintainable code with comprehensive testing and documentation

- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure - Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust - Experience with Linux/Unix - Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes - 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience with distributed systems at scale - Bachelor's degree - Experience building services using AWS products

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
