The posting

Build the systems that bring Amazon's newest servers to life. As a Systems Development Engineer on EC2 Core Platforms Engineering, you'll work at the seam between hardware and software to launch new compute platforms, keep the core fleet healthy at massive scale, and automate the way we build.

We own the quality, performance, and reliability of the platforms that host EC2 instances, from lab bring-up through general availability. You'll bring up and validate new EC2 server platforms, working hands-on with Nitro firmware, operating systems, and provisioning, then diagnose and reduce failures across the core fleet to drive reliability. A big part of the role is building the automation, including AI-driven tooling, that makes platform launches faster, safer, and more repeatable.

You'll collaborate across hardware engineering, Annapurna, and the Nitro component teams, working on some of the largest compute fleets in the world, where a single improvement in reliability or build automation compounds across millions of hosts.

Key job responsibilities - Help bring up and validate new server platforms that host cloud compute instances, from early lab testing through production launch, working across firmware, operating systems, and hardware.

- Diagnose and reduce hardware and software failures across a large-scale server fleet, using a data-driven, methodical approach to find root causes and drive fixes that improve reliability.

- Build software and automation that streamline how new platforms are introduced, reducing manual effort in provisioning, deployment, and validation so platforms reach production faster and with a high quality bar.

- Develop solutions to difficult problems that span firmware, operating systems, networking, and infrastructure.

- Improve the safety, agility, and automation of the build and launch process, and share what you learn with the team.

- 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 1+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - 3+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering experience - Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems) - Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby

- Knowledge of hardware platforms - Experience working with engineering and product teams to define a product and bring it to market

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
