The posting
Amazon Web Services is seeking a Systems Engineer to develop and manage the system requirements, functional allocation, interfaces and specification-to-test traceability for the 5-10 MW SST platform. You will maintain the engineering thread from system intent through implementation and verification. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
As a Systems Engineer you will own the system requirement set: translating architecture objectives into testable requirements and maintaining baselines, allocations and traceability in DOORS/Capella. You will address difficult decomposition and perform functional allocation and MBSE across all disciplines and close gaps between requirements, implementation and test evidence. You will also maintain cross-discipline coordination by keeping the digital thread coherent across power, controls, FPGA, software, mechanical, safety and V&V, and you will facilitate resolution where requirements span domains.
About AIS AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Key job responsibilities Requirements Engineering: - Own system requirements and translate architecture objectives into clear, testable engineering requirements. - Manage requirements using DOORS and/or Capella as identified in the organization plan. - Maintain requirements baselines, interfaces, allocations and traceability. - Ensure requirements are sufficiently precise to support hardware, software, controls, mechanical and V&V execution.
Functional architecture & MBSE: - Perform functional decomposition and allocation across power electronics, controls, embedded software, FPGA, protection, mechanical, thermal and safety functions. - Maintain the MBSE digital thread from requirements through design and verification. - Define and document system interfaces and dependencies. - Support architecture trade-off studies and system-level design reviews.
SST System Alignment: - Maintain traceability to SST system interface requirements for MVAC, LVDC, environmental/structural, system behavior and communications. - Track 13.8/34.5 kVac, 800 Vdc, power-quality, overload, efficiency, grounding, insulation-monitoring, ride-through and load-acceptance requirements as system-level requirements. - Coordinate verification requirements for state-machine transitions, LVDC load profiles, redundancy/power sharing and ESS interaction.
Verification Traceability: - Maintain specification-to-test traceability in collaboration with V&V engineers. - Ensure each critical system requirement has an appropriate verification method and objective evidence. - Support definition of system-level acceptance criteria and test requirements. - Identify gaps between requirements, implementation and test results.
Cross-functional systems work: - Work closely with the System Architect, Power Electronics, Controls, FPGA, Embedded Software, Mechanical/Thermal, Safety/EMC and V&V teams. - Facilitate technical discussions where requirements cross multiple engineering disciplines. - Document decisions, assumptions, trade-offs and unresolved system issues. - Support prototype integration and system-level issue resolution.
