THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking an accomplished Linux and x86 architecture leader to help define and drive the software architecture strategy for next-generation AMD EPYC platforms. This role spans processor architecture, Linux kernel design, platform scalability, performance optimization, and hardware/software co-development. The successful candidate will collaborate with CPU architects, firmware engineers, virtualization teams, hyperscale customers, and operating system leaders to ensure AMD platforms achieve industry-leading performance, scalability, efficiency, and software enablement.

This is a highly visible technical leadership role that provides the opportunity to influence both future AMD platform architecture and the Linux software ecosystem that powers modern datacenters, cloud infrastructure, AI systems, and high-performance computing deployments.

THE PERSON:

A recognized technical leader with deep expertise in Linux kernel internals, x86 architecture, multiprocessor system design, and datacenter-scale performance optimization. You understand how modern operating systems interact with processor topology, memory hierarchies, interrupt architecture, timing infrastructure, virtualization technologies, and power management capabilities. You combine deep system-level expertise with strategic architectural thinking and can effectively influence cross-functional organizations spanning hardware and software engineering. You thrive at solving challenging systems problems and enjoy shaping long-term platform direction while enabling execution across global engineering teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define Linux software architecture requirements for current and future AMD EPYC platforms
  • Drive hardware and software co-design initiatives across processor, firmware, virtualization, and operating system technologies.
  • Influence Linux kernel capabilities that maximize performance, scalability, latency, efficiency, and workload placement on AMD platforms.
  • Collaborate directly with AMD CPU architects to ensure optimal operating-system utilization of emerging architectural features.
  • Lead technical initiatives involving CPU topology, interrupt architecture, timing infrastructure, resource management, power efficiency, and platform scalability.
  • Drive performance analysis and optimization across enterprise, cloud, AI, HPC, and virtualization workloads.
  • Partner with hyperscalers, operating system vendors, and technology partners to accelerate AMD platform adoption.
  • Guide architectural decisions affecting large-scale SMP and NUMA systems.
  • Mentor technical leaders throughout AMD's software organization and serve as a key technical representative for AMD's Linux strategy.
  • Contribute to and influence industry-wide software technologies that enable AMD's long-term platform vision.
  • Drive features and functionality to our partner technical teams including the Linux kernel community.
  • Support the solutions offered by our partner companies. Review code, build unit tests, and write detailed documentation.
  • Lead the definition and enablement of x86 architectural security features and mitigations within the Linux ecosystem, collaborating across hardware, firmware, virtualization, and operating system layers to deliver secure, scalable server platforms.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Required

  • Experience in Linux kernel, operating systems, and x86 systems software architecture.
  • Deep understanding of x86 processor architecture and server platform design.
  • Extensive knowledge of Linux kernel internals and operating system design principles.
  • Proven technical leadership in large-scale software architecture initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of SMP, NUMA, CPU topology, memory hierarchy, interrupt delivery, and performance optimization.
  • Expertise in performance analysis, workload characterization, scalability engineering, and latency optimization.
  • Expert-level C programming and low-level systems software development skills.
  • Experience working across hardware and software engineering organizations.
  • Excellent communication, technical leadership, and strategic planning skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with CPU resource management, and performance-critical kernel subsystems.
  • Knowledge of timing infrastructure, interrupt architecture, power management, and system scalability technologies.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies including KVM and QEMU.
  • Familiarity with BIOS, UEFI, firmware interfaces, and platform initialization.
  • Experience enabling new processor architecture capabilities within Linux and open-source software ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of cloud, AI, enterprise, and HPC workload optimization.
  • Experience engaging with major ecosystem partners, operating-system vendors, and strategic customers.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelors or master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
