The posting

ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD.

At AMD, we believe technology has the power to solve the world’s most important challenges. From advancing healthcare and scientific discovery to powering AI and the technologies people rely on every day, innovation at AMD is shaping the future.

Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or bringing leading edge products to market, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward. Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career.

THE ROLE: AMD is looking for an experienced Software architect specializing in Windows installation, and deployment, to design, develop, and maintain reliable Windows installers and deployment solutions for desktop, device, and AI-enabled applications.

THE PERSON: The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of the Windows installation ecosystem, strong C++/QT/Python development skills, and practical experience integrating modern AI-assisted development tools and AI applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Architect, develop, and maintain robust Windows installers and installation frameworks for desktop applications, device drivers, services, Store/MSIX apps, and supporting runtimes and third-party components
  • Develop installer components and supporting tools in C++, Qt, and Python
  • Own install, upgrade, repair, rollback, uninstall, and migration scenarios across supported Windows versions, architectures, and enterprise environments
  • Enable silent, unattended, command-line, and enterprise software deployment
  • Diagnose and resolve difficult installation, upgrade, driver, registry, permissions, and system-configuration issues
  • Improve installation reliability, performance, logging, diagnostics, and recovery mechanisms
  • Partner with application, driver, QA, build, security, and release engineering teams
  • Evaluate and incorporate AI-assisted development tools into engineering workflows

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Multiple years of professional software development experience, with significant experience developing Windows applications or deployment software, including Agile/Scrum experience, mentoring engineers, and reviewing architecture and implementation decisions
  • Deep knowledge of Windows installation and deployment architecture, including installing, upgrading, repairing, and removing desktop applications, services, device drivers, and Store/MSIX apps, with Windows driver deployment expertise: installation requirements, signing, versioning, upgrade, rollback, and removal
  • Strong command of Windows internals: Registry, services and processes, permissions/ACLs, UAC, file system and system directories, environment variables, 32/64-bit compatibility, and threat modeling
  • Proven troubleshooting of installation failures using event and installer logs, Event Viewer, and tools such as WinDbg, Process Monitor, Process Explorer, and Windows Performance Analyzer
  • Expert modern C++ and Qt (application architecture, GUI, signals/slots, threading), integrated with Win32/Windows APIs, with a solid foundation in object-oriented design, multithreading, memory management, debugging, and software architecture
  • Strong Python for automation, build, test, packaging, and deployment tooling; experience with PowerShell and Windows command-line tools
  • Hands-on experience with installer technologies such as MSI/Windows Installer, MSIX/AppX, WiX Toolset, InstallShield, or NSIS, and a strong grasp of installer concepts: sequencing, custom actions, components/features, major/minor upgrades and downgrades, repair/rollback, per-machine vs. per-user, silent/unattended installs, logging, dependency management, and bootstrapper/bundle design
  • Packaging multi-component products (executables, services, drivers, plugins, background processes, runtimes) with prerequisites and elevated or system-level requirements, across multiple Windows releases and hardware configurations, including enterprise deployment technologies such as Intune and SCCM/MECM
  • Code signing, certificate management, and secure software supply-chain practices, including dependency/security scanning, along with CI/CD (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or equivalent) automation of packaging, installer generation, signing, install/upgrade/uninstall and regression testing, and release validation on clean Hyper-V or VMware virtual machines
  • Practical use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude/Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) for coding, debugging, test creation, and documentation, and developing or integrating AI-enabled applications (APIs, SDKs, model integration); familiarity with ComfyUI, LM Studio, or Lemonade is a plus

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
