At AMD, we believe technology has the power to solve the world’s most important challenges. From advancing healthcare and scientific discovery to powering AI and the technologies people rely on every day, innovation at AMD is shaping the future.

Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or bringing leading edge products to market, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward. Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career.

SYSTEMS DESIGN ENGINEER 2

THE ROLE:

An exciting opportunity to make an immediate contribution to AMD's next generation of technology awaits you! We are looking for a driven, analytically-minded Systems Design Engineer to join AMD's DGPU LSE team — a cutting-edge leadership group working on industry-leading discrete Graphics Processing Units. In this role, debug is the core discipline: you will own complex hardware and software failure investigations, isolate root causes across the full silicon stack, and drive fixes in collaboration with design and software teams. You will be integrated as a fully contributing member from day one.

THE PERSON:

You are a natural problem-solver who enjoys digging into failures until you understand exactly why they happen. As a new graduate Systems Design Engineer, you bring curiosity, methodical thinking, and the persistence to pursue a bug through hardware signals, software logs, and architecture specs until it is fully resolved. You communicate findings clearly, document everything, and thrive in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own and drive debugging of hardware and software failures on prototype and production silicon — from initial symptom to confirmed root cause.
  • Design and execute targeted experiments to isolate failures across hardware, firmware, drivers, and system software.
  • Use lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers) alongside software tools and diagnostics to capture and interpret failure signatures.
  • Engage design, architecture, and software teams to reproduce issues, validate hypotheses, and verify fixes.
  • Author clear, structured debug reports documenting reproduction steps, root cause analysis, and resolution — building shared institutional knowledge.
  • Develop and maintain debug scripts and automation tools (Python, shell) to accelerate failure triage and reduce manual investigation time.
  • Contribute to test plan development to improve coverage of corner cases and failure modes identified through debug.
  • Apply machine learning or data-driven approaches to identify failure patterns across large datasets and prioritize debug efforts.
  • Participate in silicon bring-up, characterizing new hardware and establishing baseline behavior to detect regressions early.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills — comfortable forming and testing hypotheses under ambiguity.
  • Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages for debug automation, log parsing, and data analysis.
  • Understanding of computer architecture fundamentals: logic design, gates, registers, clocking, timing, and HDL basics.
  • Debug techniques and methodologies
  • Experience with common lab equipment, including protocol/logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Experience with board/platform-level debug, including delivery, sequencing, analysis, and optimization
  • Knowledge of system architecture, technical debug, and validation strategies
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments is an asset.
  • Exposure to machine learning or data analysis techniques for pattern recognition in large datasets is a plus.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
