The Opportunity

The National Director, Regional Access Team will be responsible for building, launching, and leading a high-performing Regional Access organization that supports timely and appropriate patient access to a potentially newly FDA-approved, self-injectable therapy for a rare endocrine disease. This leader will develop launch readiness plans, hire and coach the regional access team, establish operating standards, and serve as a critical connector, working with Payer National Accounts, Patient Services, Specialty Pharmacy, Sales, Commercial Operations, Training, Compliance, and other cross-functional partners.

The role requires deep expertise in pharmacy benefit access, knowledge of HCP office workflows, health system business dynamics, specialty pharmacy operations, prior authorization requirements, step therapy, denials and appeals, payer policy, reimbursement education, patient support services, regional and state Medicaid payer engagement and access. The Director will ensure the regional access team educates and supports patients, providers, and payer-facing stakeholders navigate complex access barriers while operating in a compliant, patient-centered, and business-aligned manner.

Responsibilities

Launch Readiness and Strategy

  • Build and execute the regional access launch readiness plan for a rare disease endocrinology therapy with a pharmacy benefit and specialty pharmacy distribution model.
  • Define launch milestones, regional deployment plans, escalation pathways, access playbooks, and operating rhythms.
  • Define compliant launch regional access activities, including account readiness planning, approved disease-state education, education on approved patient-support resources where appropriate, and transition planning from launch preparation to post-approval execution.
  • Partner with Payer National Accounts, Trade, Patient Services, Brand, Sales, Medical, Legal, Compliance, Training, and Commercial Operations to ensure launch execution is aligned across functions.
  • Translate payer coverage dynamics, specialty pharmacy requirements, prior authorization criteria, step edits, and patient affordability considerations into compliant actionable regional strategies.

Regional Access Team Leadership

  • Recruit, onboard, coach, and develop a Regional Access team responsible for regional execution of patient, provider, and payer access support.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, performance expectations, KPIs, and management processes for the regional access organization.
  • Conduct regional rides, coaching sessions, business reviews, and performance assessments to drive consistent execution and continuous improvement.
  • Create a culture grounded in authenticity, accountability, audacity, curiosity, and engagement, while reinforcing compliance, collaboration, urgency, and patient-centered problem solving.

Health System and Customer Engagement

  • Ensure compliant reimbursement and access education for HCPs, office staff, prior authorization teams, billing personnel, specialty pharmacy partners, regional providers, IDNs, COEs, health systems, and other access stakeholders.
  • Develop a national execution framework and equip Regional Access team to compliantly educate customers on payer requirements, prior authorization and appeals pathways, coding, pharmacy benefits, EMR and formulary workflows, distribution expectations, patient support resources, and health-system access considerations using approved materials.
  • Guide Regional Access team in identifying and escalating access barriers through approved channels, including coverage gaps, affordability challenges, payer policy changes, specialty pharmacy delays, distribution issues, HUB issues, and therapy-initiation delays.
  • Serve as a regional access subject matter expert on specialty pharmacy and health-system workflows, limited distribution networks, payer-mandated pharmacies, shipment coordination, onboarding, refill continuity, pharmacy leadership, and treatment-initiation milestones.
  • Partner with Patient Services, Specialty Pharmacy, HUB Operations, Trade, and other stakeholders to improve enrollment quality, benefits investigation, prior authorization and copay support, coordinated handoffs, and patient continuity.
  • Establish compliant feedback loops to identify regional and recurring payer, provider, specialty pharmacy, HUB, distribution, and health-system barriers; determine root causes; escalate unresolved issues; share best practices; and convert successful approaches into scalable national playbooks.
  • Use appropriately aggregated, de-identified regional insights, patient journey trends, payer dynamics, and specialty pharmacy performance data, consistent with consent, privacy requirements, company policy, and approved data-use standards, to inform payer strategy, access materials, training, service-model enhancements, and operational improvements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Regional Intelligence

  • Represent Regional Access and provide market access landscape education, regional insights, regional education, and strategic input in launch and brand planning, patient services governance, sales leadership meetings, business reviews, QBRs, leadership forums, and cross-functional planning sessions.
  • Synthesize regional intelligence into clear insights on payer barriers, provider workflow needs, specialty pharmacy performance, patient journey gaps, competitive access dynamics, and training opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Analytics and Operations to develop dashboards, KPIs, case trends, access metrics, and actionable business recommendations.
  • Partner with Training and Compliance to ensure regional execution meets company policies and regulatory expectations.
  • Ensure consistent cross-functional execution, market access insight sharing, regional education, and timely escalation of access barriers across Market Access, Sales, Patient Services, Specialty Pharmacy, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and regional business forums.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical, biotech, market access, patient services, reimbursement, specialty pharmacy, or related commercial experience, including regional leadership.
  • Proven experience building, launching, scaling, and leading regional access, reimbursement, patient access, or market access teams in a complex specialty or rare disease environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, onboard, coach, and develop high-performing regional teams while establishing clear expectations, operating rhythms, KPIs, and accountability measures.
  • Experience leading teams through product launch readiness, including building deployment plans, access playbooks, training plans, and cross-functional launch execution processes.
  • Deep knowledge of pharmacy benefit access, specialty pharmacy, prior authorization, step therapy, denials and appeals, payer policy, HUB services, and HCP workflows.
  • Strong knowledge of regional payers, state Medicaid, IDN and health-system access pathways, institutional formulary processes, EMR workflows, and specialty pharmacy distribution models.
  • Track record of partnering effectively across Market Access, Sales, Patient Services, Specialty Pharmacy, Trade, Commercial Operations, Medical, Legal, Compliance, Training, and Analytics.
  • Ability to translate complex payer, provider, specialty pharmacy, and patient journey insights into compliant regional strategies, operational improvements, and scalable national solutions.
  • Strong executive presence, communication skills, business acumen, and ability to influence without authority across senior leaders, cross-functional partners, and regional teams

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
