Summary

Apple Maps creates millions of delightful user experiences across the world every day. We drive clean and simple navigation, guide you to all the right places at all the right times, and show you around without following you around! We do all of this seamlessly across all of your Apple devices.

The Maps organization is seeking an experienced Quality, Insights, and Delivery Software Engineering Director to continue optimizing and improving our Maps experiences throughout the ecosystem. This role is calling those who understand that performance and quality go hand-in-hand, and those who want to push the limits of how new technologies including AI can enhance and refine systems which seek to enhance user experience.

Description

As a visionary Director of Quality, Insights, and Delivery on our team, you will drive end-to-end quality and insights across Maps software platforms. In this role, you will define and execute comprehensive strategies and solutions which directly impact hundreds of millions of daily active users.

You will manage and grow high performing organizations comprised of engineering managers, performance architects, software, quality, deployment, and automation engineers. As a senior leader, you will partner closely with Product Design, Core Software Engineering, Systems Architecture, and Hardware teams to champion engineering excellence, establish advanced automated testing pipelines, and lead deep-dive investigations into system bottlenecks, quality and performance measurements, automation fidelity, and transaction correctness. You will create, and present, cross-team solutions to automate testing spanning multiple platforms, and devices. Along with ensuring quality, your team is also responsible for routinely packaging Maps and related SDKs across Apple platforms: iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS.

In addition, you will be responsible for creating a monetization-centric quality roadmap, and deliver scalable testing and metrics frameworks.

The ideal candidate brings proven experience leading large, distributed engineering organizations at top-tier consumer tech companies, a rigorous analytical mindset, and an empathetic, collaborative leadership philosophy that empowers teams to deliver seamless user experiences.

Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership: Proven experience leading, scaling, and mentoring multi-tiered engineering teams (including managing other managers and senior technical leads) in high-growth, consumer-facing software environments.

Technical Strategy & Architecture: Deep domain expertise across modern operating systems, application runtimes, software testing methodologies, CI/CD infrastructure, and performance measurement frameworks.

Product Sense & Consumer Focus: Relentless dedication to user experience, system responsiveness, battery/energy efficiency, latency reduction, and reliability under heavy real-world consumer workloads.

Cross-Functional Influence: Demonstrated success partnering across executive leadership, product management, design, and software release management to establish quality gates and align on shared engineering priorities.

Data-Driven Culture: Experience building automated telemetry, real-world monitoring, and analytics platforms to identify software regressions and guide performance optimizations prior to customer release.

Experience designing instrumentation and automated systems handling large volume of daily transactions.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience, combined with 12+ years of professional software engineering and quality assurance experience. Management Depth: 6+ years of engineering leadership as a Director with direct experience managing managers (second-line management or above) within consumer software and/or mobile platform ecosystems. Consumer-Scale Proven Track Record: Demonstrated background driving quality and performance engineering initiatives for consumer products operating at massive scale (millions of active users) while building privacy, security, and quality measures into every step of the process. Core Performance Proficiency: Solid foundation in core performance metrics (e.g., latency, memory usage, CPU/GPU profiling, concurrency, battery life, thermals, and network throughput). Delivery & Release Governance: Track record of driving continuous automated testing and quality gates integrated into modern Agile/DevOps CI/CD delivery pipelines.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Degree: Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field. Ecosystem Experience: Direct experience with Native operating systems (iOS, macOS), embedded devices, and/or real-time media/graphics runtimes with trust and safety as pillars for excellence. Advanced Testing Technologies: Familiarity with modern test infrastructure using distributed test execution, device farms, or AI/ML-driven automated regression detection and failure analysis. Telemetry & Observability: Expertise architecting scalable observability pipelines, automated crash reporting, and real-time field performance diagnostics. Collaborative Leadership: Demonstrated ability to build highly collaborative and inclusive engineering cultures while driving rigorous engineering accountability.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
