Role Description

Arcadis is seeking a Water Sector Account Executive to support the continued growth and strategic development of our Northern California Water portfolio. This is a key leadership role within the Water Americas Sector and will support the Americas Water Sector Leadership in driving portfolio performance, executing the broader Water Sector strategy, and expanding Arcadis' portfolio of clients and projects across Northern California's water, wastewater, recycled water, and stormwater markets.

This role will support Account Managers in strengthening client relationships, expanding the breadth of services offered to clients, and increasing Net Order Intake (NOI) and Net Revenue (NR). The successful candidate will leverage established client relationships, strong leadership capabilities, and deep industry knowledge to help grow Arcadis' portfolio while increasing client value, diversification and satisfaction.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a collaborative and commercially minded leader who is passionate about advancing water solutions while helping shape the future growth of Arcadis in one of the nation's most active water markets.

Role Accountabilities

As the Water Sector Account Executive, you will report to the Americas Water Sector Executive and work closely with the Commercial Operations Water Sector Director, Account Managers, and technical leadership to support execution of the Northern California Water Sector strategy.

In this role, you will help build and drive the overall portfolio strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and market opportunities across Northern California. You will work closely with Account Managers to support development and execution of annual client business plans, identify growth opportunities, improve client coverage, and strengthen account management practices across the portfolio.

You will serve as a visible market leader who helps elevate Arcadis' presence through participation in industry organizations, conferences, client workshops, and strategic stakeholder engagements. Through these activities, you will help position Arcadis as a recognized thought leader and trusted advisor to municipal utilities and water agencies throughout Northern California.

The successful candidate will support Account Managers in:

  • Developing and implementing portfolio growth strategies aligned with Sector objectives.
  • Increasing Net Order Intake (NOI), Net Revenue (NR), cash performance, and margin.
  • Strengthening executive-level client relationships and stakeholder engagement.
  • Growing and diversifying client portfolios through identification of emerging opportunities.
  • Developing accurate pipeline forecasts and supporting pursuit planning.
  • Advancing innovative commercial and delivery models that improve client outcomes and business performance.
  • Supporting pricing, risk management, and commercial strategy decisions across key opportunities.

You will play an important role in supporting the financial performance of the portfolio, ensuring that client growth strategies, commercial approaches, and business development activities align with Sector targets and objectives. You will collaborate with Sector and Service leadership to monitor portfolio performance and identify actions necessary to achieve growth goals.

As a people leader, you will mentor and coach Account Managers, and emerging client-facing professionals. You will help strengthen account management capabilities, support career development planning, and foster collaboration across diverse teams working toward shared client and business objectives.

Travel of up to 50% may be required for client meetings, project visits, conferences, leadership meetings, and business development activities across Northern California.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in water, wastewater, recycled water, stormwater project management, business operations, account management, or related leadership roles.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within six months.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience supporting client portfolios and driving business growth within the municipal water sector.
  • Established relationships with municipal water, wastewater, recycled and stormwater water agencies throughout Northern California.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Twenty or more years of experience in the water sector.
  • Experience managing strategic client portfolios or regional growth initiatives.
  • Active leadership participation in professional organizations such as California Water Reuse, CWEA, CA-NV AWWA, CASQA or related industry associations.

Key Attributes

The ideal candidate will bring extensive leadership experience in the Water Sector, with clear accountability for sales growth, client portfolio performance, and pricing strategy across strategic client portfolios. They will possess strong financial acumen in pricing services, margin optimization, and risk management, along with experience developing commercial models that balance competitiveness and profitability. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential, particularly when engaging with senior client and partner stakeholders. The successful candidate will be an exceptional relationship builder, combining sector expertise with strong client engagement and stakeholder management skills while inspiring high-performing teams and fostering collaboration to achieve client goals. A strong understanding of the Northern California municipal water market and regulatory environment is also important, as is the ability to identify market trends, growth opportunities, and emerging client needs and translate them into actionable strategies.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
