This position leads and coordinates infrastructure and cybersecurity initiatives that support mission-critical public safety operations. The role partners closely with public safety agencies, County IT staff, and technology vendors to plan, implement, and enhance cloud, infrastructure, and systems integration projects while providing technical leadership as part of a highly collaborative team responsible for supporting 24/7 public safety technology services.

The Public Safety Information Technology (PSIT) unit provides technology leadership, infrastructure support, and systems integration services for Arlington County's public safety agencies, including Police, Fire, Sheriff's Office, and Public Safety Communications and Emergency Management. The PSIT infrastructure team is responsible for ensuring the security, reliability, availability, and modernization of the technology systems, cloud services, infrastructure, and mission-critical applications that support public safety operations.

Responsibilities

Major Job Duties:

  • Providing technical direction for cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and secure architecture components of assigned public safety IT projects and technology procurements;
  • Administering, monitoring, and optimizing secure cloud and hybrid infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, identity and access management, backup, disaster recovery, logging, and resource utilization;
  • Configuring and integrating cloud and on-premises infrastructure using standardized security controls, automation, monitoring, and operational practices to support reliable and scalable services;
  • Ensuring compliance with County security standards and applicable public safety requirements by managing access controls, identifying vulnerabilities, supporting audits, and coordinating remediation activities;
  • Planning cloud infrastructure implementations and lifecycle improvements based on security posture, performance, capacity, availability, continuity, and cost requirements; and
  • Maintaining resilient public safety infrastructure through security patching, continuous monitoring, incident response coordination, backup validation, and timely restoration of cloud and on-premises services.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Strong understanding of cloud and server infrastructure and its application in public safety environments;
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assigned projects and tasks effectively;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Ability to effectively work within a collaborative and team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems management, mathematics, or a related discipline; and
  • Considerable and relevant experience supporting and administering IT infrastructure environments, including on-premises and/or cloud-based systems; performing technical analysis and troubleshooting; providing direct support for complex technology environments; and/or analyzing and identifying technology solutions that meet business and operational requirements.

Substitution(s): Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Desirables: Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Managing project teams, working on large-scale or complex cloud, or hybrid infrastructure projects;
  • Cyber-security, vulnerability detection, and assessment;
  • Experience working with MS Azure, AWS, or private cloud environments;
  • System design and support of large-scale or complex cloud or virtual server environments; and/or
  • Certifications or Graduate degrees in cloud, server, cybersecurity or related areas.

Special Requirements

  • Background Check: Due to the sensitive nature of this position, candidates receiving consideration will be required to undergo a pre-employment polygraph examination and a character/background investigation conducted by the Police Department.
  • Working Conditions: None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
  • Physical Requirements: Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Please complete each section of the application including the supplemental questions. Your responses to the supplemental questions are required because they provide us with specific information necessary to evaluate your qualifications for this position. Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
