ASRC Federal Mission Solutions is a premier provider of systems engineering, software engineering, system integration and project management services for real-time, mission-critical defense systems. We are seeking a Topside Engineer to support the design, analysis, and integration of combat-system equipment aboard Aegis-equipped Navy ships. This role evaluates proposed topside and below-deck equipment installations, recommends equipment locations, and performs engineering assessments to identify and resolve physical, electromagnetic, structural, operational, safety, and system-performance impacts. The position requires hands-on engineering judgment across shipboard arrangement, CAD-based design review, equipment placement, EMI/EMC, RADHAZ, field-of-view, blockage, interfaces, and installation constraints. Roles and Responsibilities:
Perform engineering analyses supporting the design, placement, and integration of topside and below-deck combat-system equipment. Evaluate proposed equipment locations and recommend placement based on performance, physical, structural, operational, interface, accessibility, and installation constraints. Assess topside impacts including EMI/EMC, RADHAZ, interference, field-of-view, blockage, system cutouts, environmental exposure, survivability, aviation, human factors, and safety. Develop and review 2D/3D models, drawings, and installation designs supporting shipboard equipment arrangements. Conduct feasibility studies to identify integration risks, evaluate alternatives, recommend design changes, and optimize system performance. Analyze system and test data to identify performance or integration issues and recommend corrective actions. Support ship checks, installation, test, verification, trials, and operational assessments of combat-system changes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and customers to resolve interfaces, refine design requirements, and support technical decisions. Prepare technical analyses, reports, design documentation, and briefings.
Requirements:
U.S. citizenship and active U.S. Government Secret security clearance. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline. 5+ years of relevant engineering experience involving shipboard systems, equipment design, physical arrangement, integration, or technical analysis. Ability to work in an office environment and support shipboard visits, test sites, integration events, and occasional travel. Demonstrated experience using CAD or similar tools to review or develop 2D/3D equipment layouts, arrangements, or installation designs. Experience assessing equipment placement and physical integration considering system, structural, operational, interface, accessibility, and installation constraints. Experience performing topside engineering analyses involving EMI/EMC, RADHAZ, antenna or sensor placement, field-of-view, blockage, interference, or comparable shipboard system impacts. Working knowledge of systems engineering processes including requirements, interface management, integration, and verification/validation. Strong written, verbal, and collaborative communication skills.
Preferred but Not Required Experience:
Experience with Aegis or other U.S. Navy combat systems. Familiarity with Navy ship design, certification, installation, and modernization processes. And Previous DoD, military, shipboard, or naval engineering experience. Experience with Linux/Unix environments.
