The posting

The Laser Scan Manager – 3D leads Audubon’s terrestrial laser scanning operations and supports the growth of its 3D reality capture services. This role manages staff, equipment, workflows, and project delivery from scope review and planning through field collection, processing, quality control, and client handoff.

The manager works closely with survey, engineering, design, project management, and business development teams to ensure scan data is complete, accurate, well organized, and practical for its intended use. The role also develops consistent procedures, mentors staff, and helps identify opportunities to expand 3D scanning services.

Key Responsibilities

Operations and Project Delivery

  • Lead and coordinate terrestrial laser scanning projects for industrial, energy, pipeline, facility, and infrastructure clients.
  • Review work requests, scopes, drawings, site information, and deliverable requirements before mobilization.
  • Develop project plans for field coverage, scan station layout, control, registration, site access, safety, staffing, schedule, and data management.
  • Assign personnel and equipment based on project needs, crew capability, schedule, and location.
  • Monitor project progress and address gaps, risks, or schedule issues early.
  • Coordinate with project managers and clients on access, site conditions, control, deliverables, and changes in scope.
  • Support estimates, proposals, work plans, schedules, and technical responses for scanning work.

Technical Oversight and Quality

  • Establish and maintain standards for field collection, registration, georeferencing, control, data processing, quality checks, file naming, and delivery.
  • Review scan coverage and field data completeness before crews demobilize when practicable.
  • Verify that processed datasets meet project requirements for coverage, registration, accuracy, coordinate system, classification, and deliverable format.
  • Confirm that data is suitable for its intended use, including design, modeling, as-built documentation, coordination, and visualization.
  • Investigate data quality issues, identify their cause, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain clear records of project methods, control, processing steps, quality checks, limitations, and exceptions.

Staff Leadership and Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop laser scanning personnel, including field technicians and processing staff.
  • Set clear expectations for technical quality, communication, safety, equipment care, and project accountability.
  • Assess training needs and provide or coordinate instruction in scanning equipment, field methods, processing software, and quality procedures.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and workforce planning for the 3D scanning team.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing and consistent practices across project teams and regions.

Equipment, Software, and Data Management

  • Oversee the readiness, maintenance, calibration, inventory, and appropriate use of scanning equipment and accessories.
  • Evaluate hardware, software, and workflow improvements that may improve quality, efficiency, or client access to data.
  • Coordinate secure data transfer, storage, backup, archiving, and retention in accordance with company and project requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of file sizes, software compatibility, and practical access needs for downstream users.

Safety and Business Development

  • Promote safe work practices and ensure scanning plans account for site hazards, access requirements, and applicable company procedures.
  • Coordinate with project teams and HSE personnel on job-specific safety planning.
  • Support client meetings and business development activities by explaining scanning capabilities, methods, deliverables, and limitations.
  • Help develop repeatable service offerings and identify ways to integrate terrestrial scanning with survey, UAV, mobile mapping, and engineering workflows.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience with Trimble laser scanning hardware and processing software.
  • Significant experience delivering terrestrial laser scanning projects, including field collection, registration, georeferencing, processing, and quality control.
  • Experience leading staff or coordinating technical project teams.
  • Working knowledge of survey control, coordinate systems, adjustment concepts, and accuracy requirements.
  • Experience with one or more scanning and point cloud platforms, such as Trimble RealWorks, Trimble Business Center, Leica Cyclone, Autodesk ReCap, or comparable software.
  • Familiarity with CAD and design workflows, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or CADWorx, is preferred.
  • Experience with industrial facilities, piping, process plants, energy, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Strong communication, planning, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and work in industrial environments as required.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities:

  • All employees are responsible for supporting Audubon Companies’ Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures. This includes:
  • Performing duties in a manner that protects personal and team health and safety
  • Participating in required HSE training, meetings, and reporting activities
  • Identifying and reporting hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions
  • Following safe work practices and complying with applicable regulatory requirements

Success Measures

  • Projects are planned and staffed appropriately, with requirements understood before fieldwork begins.
  • Field datasets are complete and checked before crews leave the site whenever practical.
  • Deliverables meet agreed technical, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Issues and scope risks are communicated promptly and documented clearly.
  • Staff receive consistent coaching and develop stronger technical and project skills.
  • Scanning equipment and data are managed responsibly.
  • The 3D scanning team supports safe, reliable project delivery and sustainable service growth.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
