The posting

Do you want to build the data engine taking Avanza into Denmark?

At Avanza, we are driven by making savings cheaper, better, and simpler. To succeed in our expansion, we need data that is reliable, resilient, and actionable, treated with the exact same engineering standards as any critical software.

We are currently operating as an internal startup, building a brand new platform to launch Avanza in Denmark. We combine startup pace and autonomy with the strength of Avanza's proven infrastructure. As the Data Engineer for our Danish expansion team, you will have end-to-end ownership of our product's data capabilities, bridging our application domain with Avanza's modern data infrastructure.

What you will do

In this team, you will not need to build a data platform from scratch. Instead, you take full end-to-end ownership of our product's data capabilities, bridging the gap between engineering teams and Avanza's established infrastructure.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain production-grade data pipelines with high demands on resilience, observability, and established CI/CD quality standards.
  • Decouple the analytical layer from operational backend systems to ensure smooth workflows for developers and a sustainable system architecture over time
  • Model high-quality data products by connecting user behavior data, such as clickstream and event tracking, with core financial and domain data.
  • Act as the bridge between software engineers, product analysts, and machine learning to enable insights that make a real difference for the product.
  • Take a proactive, autonomous role in shaping architecture, data contracts, and best practices within our cross-functional team.
  • Our core analytical stack rests on BigQuery, dbt, and event-driven architectures with streaming data.

Who you are

You are a senior, autonomous Data Engineer who thrives when given clear ownership. You do not wait for requirements to be handed to you, but instead identify what needs to be built and how to make it truly robust. You understand software engineering fundamentals and take pride in shipping tested, traceable, and production-ready data solutions.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A proven track record of shipping and maintaining production data pipelines, treating data with the same engineering discipline regarding CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and version control as critical backend systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SQL, analytical data modeling, and modern tools such as BigQuery and dbt. • Solid experience with event-driven architectures and streaming data in production through tools like Kafka, Pub/Sub, or equivalent message queues.
  • Architectural understanding of how to decouple operational and analytical systems to build scalable interfaces.
  • Practical experience working with user behavior data and connecting it with transactional domain data.
  • A proactive, collaborative mindset where you are comfortable being the subject matter expert while partnering closely with developers and product teams.
  • Professional working proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

Bonus points if you have:

  • A background in backend development, such as Java or Python, or experience building data ingestion APIs.
  • Experience using Python for data automation or AI and ML integrations.
  • Curiosity about exploring AI tools and methods that improve day-to-day engineering velocity.
  • Previous experience in fintech or regulated environments. • An interest in personal finance, savings, and investments.

Application and practical information

We apply a hybrid workplace model and love seeing each other at our newly renovated office at Regeringsgatan 103 about two to three days a week.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
