BBVA is a global company with more than 160 years of history that operates in more than 25 countries where we serve more than 80 million customers. We are more than 121,000 professionals working in multidisciplinary teams with profiles as diverse as financiers, legal experts, data scientists, developers, engineers and designers.

About the job:

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Associate supports the Portfolio Monitoring & Solutions function by performing the day-to-day post-closing monitoring and control of BBVA's Structured Trade & Commodity Finance portfolio. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with transaction documentation, monitoring collateral performance, validating borrower reporting and identifying emerging risks across a broad range of structured financing solutions. Working closely with Front Office, Credit Risk, Legal, Operations, Engineering, external service providers and clients, the Associate contributes to maintaining a robust portfolio monitoring framework while supporting portfolio reporting, process standardization and automation initiatives.

List Major/Essential Job Duties:

  • Perform ongoing monitoring of Structured Trade & Commodity Finance transactions, including Commodity Borrowing Base Facilities, Inventory Finance, Warehouse Finance, Prepayments, Pre-Export Finance, Receivables Purchase Programs (RPP), Receivables Finance, Credit Insurance-backed transactions and other structured working capital facilities.
  • Review and validate borrowing base certificates, collateral reports, inventory reports, warehouse reports and borrower financial information.
  • Monitor collateral eligibility, advance rates, reserves, dilution, concentration limits, financial covenants and reporting requirements in accordance with transaction documentation.
  • Identify, investigate and escalate exceptions, covenant breaches, reporting deficiencies and emerging portfolio risks.
  • Review transaction documentation to understand collateral structures, security packages, insurance provisions, warehouse arrangements and monitoring obligations.
  • Coordinate with Front Office, Credit Risk, Legal, Operations, Engineering and external collateral managers to resolve monitoring issues and outstanding documentation requirements.
  • Support the onboarding of new transactions, amendments, renewals, refinancings and portfolio transfers by implementing monitoring requirements and controls.
  • Prepare and maintain portfolio monitoring reports, management dashboards and evidence repositories to support internal governance and decision-making.
  • Ensure timely receipt, validation and maintenance of borrower reporting and collateral information.
  • Contribute to the development, standardization and continuous improvement of monitoring procedures, governance frameworks and operating controls.
  • Support digitalization and automation initiatives by leveraging reporting and analytical tools such as Advanced Excel, Power BI, SQL, Python or similar technologies.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders and clients while providing a high level of service and responsiveness.

Level of Complexity and Risk Involved:

The role operates in a dynamic and highly regulated environment involving complex structured financing transactions secured by commodities, inventories, receivables and other collateral assets. Responsibilities require interpreting sophisticated legal and credit documentation, analyzing collateral performance and exercising sound judgment when identifying exceptions or emerging risks.

The Associate is expected to independently manage multiple transactions simultaneously while ensuring compliance with financing agreements, internal policies and regulatory requirements. Although major credit decisions remain with senior management and risk teams, the quality and timeliness of the Associate's monitoring activities are critical to the early identification of potential risks, protection of the Bank's collateral position and overall portfolio performance.

The position requires frequent interaction with multiple internal and external stakeholders and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced international environment.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities/Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Structured Trade Finance, Commodity Finance or Asset-Based Lending products.
  • Understanding of borrowing base methodologies and collateral monitoring principles.
  • Ability to interpret credit agreements, security documentation and transaction structures.
  • Knowledge of inventory finance, warehouse finance, receivables finance and structured working capital solutions.
  • Financial statement analysis and covenant monitoring capabilities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with Power BI, SQL, Python, Google Apps Script or other reporting and automation tools is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Front Office, Risk, Operations, Legal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability and professionalism.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with interest in process optimization and automation.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Spanish is highly valued.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
