Multidisciplinary Consulting Firm | Townsville

Build relationships. Win work. Help shape our growth in North Queensland.

CQG Consulting, part of the Beca group, is seeking an experienced consulting professional to lead growth of its business in Central and North Queensland, with a specific focus on Townsville and surrounding areas.

This opportunity will suit someone with a background in engineering, geotechnical science, surveying, ecology, environmental science or a related technical discipline who enjoys building relationships with clients, understanding their challenges and turning opportunities into successful projects.

You will bring established regional networks, commercial judgement and the confidence to take the lead in developing our market presence. Business development will be your primary focus, complemented by opportunities to contribute to technical projects within your expertise.

The opportunity

Working closely with CQG and Beca colleagues, you will connect regional clients with the range of expertise available across our businesses, including but not limited to environmental, planning, engagement, geotechnical and engineering and design.

You will have scope to influence our regional growth priorities, develop lasting client relationships and help build a sustainable pipeline of work.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading business development across Central and North Queensland markets, with a specific focus on Townsville and surrounding areas.
  • Strengthening existing client relationships and establishing new connections with decision-makers, project partners and industry networks.
  • Identifying upcoming projects, understanding client needs and shaping opportunities early.
  • Bringing together the right CQG and Beca specialists to develop practical solutions and compelling proposals.
  • Leading or supporting bids, fee proposals and client presentations, following opportunities through to award.
  • Working with delivery teams to ensure client commitments are understood and relationships continue beyond winning the work.
  • Contributing to technical advice, project management or delivery where your expertise and business priorities align.

About you

You are a technically credible consulting professional with a strong commercial outlook. You are comfortable initiating conversations, building trust and taking responsibility for progressing opportunities.

You will bring:

  • Qualifications in engineering, geotechnical science, surveying, environmental science, ecology or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience working in a professional consultancy, with an understanding of project delivery, proposals, fees and commercial performance.
  • Established professional networks and industry knowledge in Townsville and the surrounding region.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop client relationships and convert opportunities into commissioned work.
  • An understanding of the regional market and the factors influencing clients’ investment and project decisions.
  • The ability to recognise opportunities beyond your own discipline and involve the right specialists.
  • Strong communication skills, initiative and the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.

Experience across water, energy and/or defence would be valuable. Your relationships, judgement and record of developing business will be central to your success.

Why CQG and Beca?

CQG brings strong regional Queensland knowledge and established environmental, planning and engagement capabilities. As part of Beca, we can connect clients with broader engineering and professional services expertise.

This role offers the opportunity to combine local relationships with that wider capability, influence our North Queensland growth and contribute directly to the work we pursue and deliver.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
