The posting

  • Work with one of the most successful asset managers in London
  • Rebuild a state-of-the-art platform that supports investors in making great decisions
  • An extremely attractive salary

Who are we?

Berg Search is working with a financial technology company that provides a software platform for portfolio managers that helps them make better investment decisions by supporting every core part of the investment process. The system uses advanced behavioural analytics to help improve portfolio manager performance over time.

Our client is the technology arm of a well-known multi-manager investment platform, that allocates capital across a range of equity long/short strategies.

Role

As the product director, you will oversee the development of their second-generation investment platform.

You will work with the firm's Founder and portfolio managers to deeply understand how they use the current platform and assess which elements of the current system are unique and high value vs which are commoditised.

Working with all stakeholders you will finalise the vision of V2 and support the development through to deployment. Once complete, you will continue to innovate by understanding what features/ functions would yield the largest ROI to the various stakeholders and where the engineering team should prioritise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the engineering team tasked with delivering and innovating on the second generation of the investment platform.
  • Build a deep understanding of the needs of our PMs as the financial instruments that they invest in.
  • You will become a thought partner to the company's Founder, crafting the long-term vision of the platform.
  • Create an exceptional, collaborative partnership with the Engineering Team, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collect data and distil insights from across all relevant sources including our PMs, third-party customers, etc.
  • Turn those insights into a well-defined roadmap that supports the objectives set by the executive leadership.
  • Share best practices of product development with the entire engineering team with the goal of increasing the quality of product delivery company-wide.
  • Act as a manager and mentor to junior product professionals in the engineering team
  • Strive to be exceptionally outcome-focused. Where features are built and assessed vs quantifiable metrics decided in advance.

The Candidate

  • You have at least seven years of experience supporting the development of a complex SaaS application as a product professional.
  • Deep understanding of agile practices and experience implementing/ improving those practices at previous organisations.
  • A demonstrated track record of using qualitative and quantitative measures to prioritise a product roadmap that drives measurable business outcomes.
  • Outcome focused. You judge everything you do by the outcomes that you deliver and hold yourself accountable to them.
  • You are comfortable in (and enjoy) extremely fast-paced environments that will stretch you out of your comfort zone.
  • Organised & detailed. From vision to roadmap to sprint, your operations and communications are precise, extensive, clear and derived from the first principles of users, data and shared success. Across all forms of communication, you combine flexibility and clarity to deliver information in a variety of ways, so the entire audience is engaged, inspired and informed.
  • You engage in spirited constructive debates in a calm professional manner.
  • You build teams on a foundation of trust and hold a strong, action-oriented belief in the differentiating power of creating diverse, equitable and inclusive teams. You can provide examples from your track record of hiring, developing, and retaining high-performing Product teams as a result.
  • It will be an advantage if you have prior experience at an investment technology firm.

The role is situated in London and there is an expectation to be in the office 4-5 days per week.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
