About The Role

Looking to start your career in naval architecture and work on real-world engineering challenges from day one?

BMT is looking for Graduate Naval Architects to join our Naval Architecture team across the UK. You will work alongside experienced naval architects, engineers and technical specialists on a diverse portfolio of vessels, projects and technical challenges.

From vessel design and technical consultancy to research and in-service support, you will have opportunities to apply what you have learnt at university while developing your knowledge across different areas of naval architecture.

We want you to build a career that reflects your interests and ambitions. Through varied project experience, tailored development and support from experienced mentors, you will be encouraged to develop your strengths, broaden your experience and increasingly take ownership as your confidence grows.

What might you work on?

Depending on your interests and project requirements, you could contribute to:

  • The design and development of ships, submarines and specialist craft
  • Naval architecture studies and technical assessments
  • Vessel performance, stability, structures and general arrangement activities
  • In-service support and the development of solutions for existing vessels
  • Research into emerging technologies and future maritime challenges

What can you expect from us?

A varied early career where no two projects need to look the same. You will have the opportunity to broaden your technical experience, learn from experienced practitioners and increasingly take ownership as your confidence and capability grow.

What is the Graduate Programme?

As a BMT graduate, you will join an exciting two-year development programme designed to give you the knowledge, skills and experience to build a successful career. You will benefit from a tailored development programme, varied on-the-job experience and the support of an experienced mentor throughout your journey.

For our naval architecture graduates, our Initial Professional Development (IPD) scheme is accredited by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), providing a structured pathway to support your professional development.

If Chartership is one of your ambitions, BMT will support you on your journey towards professional registration. Working in partnership with a range of professional institutions, we will provide mentoring and guidance through the application process, as well as paying your relevant professional membership fees.

About You

We are looking for proactive, curious and enthusiastic graduates who enjoy solving problems, embrace new challenges and want to build a career in naval architecture.

You do not need to arrive knowing everything. We are passionate about developing people and recognise that no one starts their career knowing everything. Technology and our industry continue to evolve, so we are looking for people who enjoy solving problems, embrace new challenges and, above all, have the curiosity and aptitude to learn.

You will ideally bring:

  • A degree, or equivalent qualification, in naval architecture or a directly related discipline, preferably at Master’s level
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical ideas clearly
  • The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Enthusiasm for solving engineering problems and delivering high-quality work for clients
  • Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn
  • An ambition to develop professionally and, if desired, work towards Chartered Engineer status

Missing some of the skills? Let us be the judge. Bring your enthusiasm and the right attitude, and we will help you develop your capabilities, discover your strengths and realise your potential.

What's Next?

If you’re ready to use your skills to help tackle meaningful challenges and contribute to a more sustainable future, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now and join a team that values innovation, inclusion, and long‑term impact.

We only accept applications via our ATS. CVs sent directly to HR or operational teams will not be considered. Any unsolicited candidates will be treated as direct applications, with no fees payable.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
