You are likely to thrive in this role if you enjoy open-ended technical problems, can communicate complex ideas clearly, and are motivated by work that has real-world impact for our customers. We do not expect you to arrive with detailed defence-domain knowledge; we are looking for interest within the defence and security domain, evidence of technical curiosity, sound judgement, collaboration and the ability to learn quickly. If you would like to work with a diverse, collaborative team to help support the creation, realisation, and transition into service of new Defence systems alongside the UK’s Armed Forces, this role may be for you.

Working within the Wider Operational Systems Group.

About You

At BMT, our values shape everything we do. We are looking for curious, motivated graduates who are passionate about solving complex engineering and technology challenges that make a real difference. While much of our work supports the UK Defence sector, we draw on expertise from a wide range of complex and safety-critical industries, including maritime, energy, infrastructure and nuclear, enabling us to bring fresh thinking and innovative solutions to our customers' most demanding problems.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be passionate about science, technology, engineering and problem-solving, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to others.
  • Act with integrity, earning trust through professionalism, respect and accountability.
  • Think creatively and innovatively, approaching challenges with curiosity, agility and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Thrive in collaborative environments, building effective relationships with colleagues, customers, stakeholders and end users.
  • Be excited by the opportunity to contribute to projects that have meaningful impact across defence and other complex systems domains.

We're looking for graduates who have:

  • A STEM degree with strong analytical skills and an understanding of engineering principles.
  • An ambition to work within and contribute to the UK Defence domain and other complex, safety-critical industries.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • A customer-focused approach and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • The motivation to continuously develop your skills and work towards Chartered Engineer status or other relevant professional qualifications.
  • British nationality or a minimum of five years' continuous residency in the UK (required for Security Clearance eligibility).

Desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience of robotics, mechatronics or autonomous systems.
  • Knowledge of networking, network architecture or network engineering.
  • Engineering management experience or understanding.
  • Exposure to complex systems or highly regulated sectors beyond defence, such as nuclear, energy or critical national infrastructure.

What's Next?

If you’re ready to use your skills to help tackle meaningful challenges and contribute to a more sustainable future, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now and join a team that values innovation, inclusion, and long‑term impact.

We only accept applications via our ATS. CVs sent directly to HR or operational teams will not be considered. Any unsolicited candidates will be treated as direct applications, with no fees payable.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
