Lead Forward Deployed Engineer

Company:

The Boeing Company

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for an Lead Forward Deployed Engineer to join our growing Data Analytics Engineering & Integration team in Ridley Park, PA; Seattle, WA; or Hazelwood, MO. This team is tasked with transforming the way BDS data is sourced, managed, and utilized to unlock insights to drive business growth and optimization. The team supports data needs for internal stakeholders, across BDS business programs and functions, and is tasked with utilizing data to inform and improve the full lifecycle of BDS products.

As the Product Manager / Product Designer for our data team, you will own the entire design lifecycle of our data-driven applications and platforms – combining UI/UX craft with product strategy to optimize supply chain operations, engineering processes, and manufacturing efficiencies. You will be a hands-on, Palantir-caliber builder with deep ontology understanding, pairing closely with forward deployed and product engineers to prototype, ship, and validate workflows that enhance decision-making and operational performance.

This role requires a resourceful, self-driven, outcome-oriented individual with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to partner, execute, and communicate skillfully, while solving complex problems in dynamic environments. The ideal candidate blends product management discipline with product design mastery – fluent in user research, interaction and visual design, prototyping, and the realities of how modern software interfaces are built on large scale data platforms, cloud computing, and hybrid clouds.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Own the full design lifecycle of data products – from early product concepts and high-level workflows to micro-interactions and crisp, effective visual design.
  • Develop a strategic vision and product roadmap for data products and solutions that support supply chain, engineering, and manufacturing functions, aligning design decisions with company objectives, roadmap goals, and market demands.
  • Build and iterate on a working ontology – modeling objects, properties, links, and actions – so applications are grounded in a shared, accurate representation of BDS operational data.
  • Conduct user research: run surveys, interviews, scripted usability tests, contextual inquiry, and A/B testing to understand user pain points and needs; visit customer offices to learn from the users we serve.
  • Pair qualitative research with quantitative signals such as product and usage metrics to validate decisions and prioritize work.
  • Build wireframes, user flows, and interactive prototypes, both to communicate designs and to validate decisions.
  • Establish and maintain the design system: typography, color palettes, components, and micro-interactions that keep the product consistent and scalable.
  • Ship hands-on: prototype and build out products alongside engineers, treating them as partners; be fluent enough using Palantir Foundry.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams – product managers, developers, and researchers – to balance user goals with technical and business constraints.
  • Define and document product requirements, including data sources, data processing, and analytics capabilities; manage and prioritize the product backlog based on changing requirements.
  • Oversee all stages of product creation including design, development, testing, and deployment, ensuring products meet quality and performance standards.
  • Write strong user stories that capture complete requirements and relate to portfolio value.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and impact of data solutions; track and analyze product performance metrics and prepare reports and presentations for senior management.
  • Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical teams to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
  • Participate in Scrum meetings and product sprints as a leader and champion of the SAFe process.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
