Job Description Summary:

Under limited supervision, provides exceptional customer service to patrons, performs cash handling duties, and registration system functions including registering patrons for programs and services of the department at any of the city of Boulder’s recreation facilities. Assists with facility operations and performs related duties as required. May be assigned projects related to operations. Ability and willingness to work afternoon and evening (closing shifts) M-F, and a weekend shift (Fri - Sun). Will work out of any of the three Recreation Centers as assigned by business need.

Job Description:

RECREATION CENTERS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides excellent customer service to the patrons of the recreation facilities and leads RMS co-workers on shift.
  • Interacts with the Department of Parks and Recreation customers by greeting patrons, answering phones, providing information about services and programs, checking in patrons and checking out equipment.
  • Operates the recreation management system by registering participants for classes and activities and has strong knowledge of program areas.
  • Sells memberships and daily entries; checks patrons in to use the facility.
  • Understands and effectively enforces all relevant code and City policy that dictates use of the facilities to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all.
  • Communicates effectively with facility patrons in person and over the phone to market and promote Parks and Recreation Programs and services, which may include giving tours and preparing flyers.
  • Utilizes the facility calendars to understand scheduled events.
  • Assists patrons with facility rentals such as birthday parties and meeting space rentals.
  • Stays informed of all related events, policies, and updates relevant to the role through City communication channels.
  • Performs cash handling in accordance with the City and Department policies and internal controls and can accurately balance cash drawer and provide accurate change.
  • Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city.
  • Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to City property.
  • Knows and complies with all City and department personnel policies; participating in professional trainings and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.
  • Maintains functional and clean spaces in the facility when custodial staff are not available.
  • Supports emergency operations during emergency incidents or events as needed.
  • Serves as a lead worker.
  • Resolves customer concerns, incidents and program issues as they occur.
  • Completes accident and incident reports as necessary.
  • Reports facility issues and monitoring facility by periodic building walk-throughs.
  • Arranges with Facilities Department for repair of unplanned, emergency facility problems.
  • Provides support and assistance to other front desk employees.
  • Provides general direction to custodial staff as needed on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrates excellent leadership to other front desk employees and acts as a role model for others as the most proficient front desk employee,.
  • Executes additional project-based assignments.
  • Manages inventory of supplies for facilities, including items sold for resale and office supplies.
  • Participates in broader departmental customer service needs.
  • Supports broader asset management needs.
  • Administers facility rentals, including user groups, contracted & private events, and birthday parties.
  • Assists program coordinators with program maintenance, customer service and special projects.
  • Assists Business Services workgroup with broader recreation management system maintenance and reporting projects
  • Participates in department matrix teams and project groups when relevant
  • Other special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to demonstrate cash handling experience.
  • Ability, interest, and desire to provide excellent customer service in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse people in an organizational context.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and possibly City holidays.
  • Current First Aid/AED and CPR certifications within 90 days of hire. ​
  • Must hold and maintain a valid drivers' license.
  • Must successfully pass a background check before first day of work and maintain acceptable screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working for a public or private recreation facility.
  • Experience with the SmartRec by Amilia recreation management software system.
  • Prior experience as a lead worker.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate bilingually in English and Spanish (Conversational level in Spanish).

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of customer service experience.
  • Current First Aid/AED and CPR certifications within 90 days of hire. ​

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical and Mental Effort: Primarily sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying; frequent walking and standing. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate computer equipment and other office equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an office setting. Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/ or operating a keyboard. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.
  • Work Environment: Works primarily in a clean, comfortable, indoor environment. Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.
  • Machines and Equipment Used: Uses standard office equipment including computers, printers, and phones, as well as other equipment such as washers/dryers, cardio or strength equipment, and stereos.
