  • Ensure proper legal clauses (liability, indemnity, termination, dispute resolution)
  • Provide guidance on contractual risks and obligations
  • Vet internal documents with legal implications

Complaint Handling (Legal Perspective)

  • Review complaints with potential legal exposure
  • Guide responses to avoid legal admissions or escalation
  • Support teams in managing sensitive cases

  • Maintain a Compliance Obligations Register
  • Define what compliance means in practical terms for each function
  • Ensure legal requirements are translated into organisational expectations

Compliance Monitoring & Assurance

  • Conduct independent compliance checks (not operational audits)
  • Verify that controls exist and are functioning across departments
  • Provide compliance assurance reports to management

Escalation & Governance

  • Identify and escalate compliance gaps and risks to EXCO
  • Track corrective actions and ensure closure
  • Highlight trends, repeat issues, and regulatory exposure

Data Protection Officer (DPO) Responsibilities

  • Act as DPO in accordance with Mauritian law
  • Monitor compliance with data protection requirements across the organisation
  • Advise on lawful processing, retention, access, and data sharing
  • Oversee DPIAs and data protection governance
  • Manage data breach assessment and notification processes
  • Maintain breach registers and monitor trends
  • Act as contact point with the Data Protection Commissioner
  • Develop and deliver data protection awareness and training programmes across the organisation
  • Ensure all relevant staff receive appropriate training based on their roles (clinical, administrative, IT, etc.)
  • Maintain records of data protection training, attendance, and completion for audit and regulatory purposes

Advisory Role (Non-Operational)

  • Advise on legal and compliance implications of new projects and systems
  • Support compliance-by-design in new initiatives
  • Provide guidance without owning operational delivery

What are we looking for:

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in legal, compliance, audit, or governance roles
  • Experience in healthcare or regulated environment is a strong advantage
  • Exposure to contract management, complaints handling, or litigation coordination
  • Practical experience in data protection / privacy frameworks preferred.
  • Good understanding of Mauritian legal and regulatory environment, Data Protection Act and privacy principles, Contract law and legal documentation and Compliance monitoring and governance frameworks
  • Ability to interpret legal requirements into practical actions, review contracts and identify key risks, conduct structured compliance checks and maintain registers and documentation (compliance, litigation, data protection)
  • Professional certifications in Compliance or Data Protection are an added advantage
  • Strong integrity, attention to detail, and structured approach
  • Ability to challenge constructively and escalate appropriately
  • Attention to detail and structured thinking
  • Clear communication (able to explain legal concepts in simple terms)
  • Discretion and confidentiality
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
