Carpenter Technology’s high-performance materials and advanced process solutions are an integral part of critical applications used within the aerospace, transportation, medical and energy markets, among other markets. Building on its history of innovation, Carpenter Technology’s wrought and powder technology capabilities support a range of next-generation products and manufacturing techniques, including novel magnetic materials and additive manufacturing. Our Tanner, AL location is an integrated mill manufacturing high quality premium and ultra-premium forged bar and billet products from melt to ship.

Engineer I – Process Manufacturing

  • Provide support in the upgrade, rebuild, installation and start-up of process equipment.
  • Supports implementation of solutions to equipment safety issues.
  • In addition, provide technical assistance and an interface function on process, product, and maintenance problems.
  • Interact with outside resources including contractors, equipment vendors, and supply vendors for assigned projects.
  • Work within and assist in the development of the appropriate standards, specifications, and procedures, including but not limited to those required for production, technical, safety, and environmental activities.
  • Contributes to OEE improvement activities.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Four-year college degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline preferred. Two-year college degree with at least one year of engineering support experience.
  • Entry level position.
  • Has basic knowledge of theories, practices and procedures in a function.
  • Knowledge of the existing manufacturing systems including computer systems, steel making processes, material flow and handling schemes, quality systems and process control techniques.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • To perform assignments with limited exercise of judgment under direct supervision of higher-level engineer, supervisor or manager.
  • Ability to operate a computer workstation and the appropriate software/hardware.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment, to train and develop others, and to work under frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized and the ability to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.
