Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

As the Sales Variance Forecasting & Alignment Manager within Caterpillar's Global Parts Pricing (GPP) organization, you will lead the enterprise-wide forecasting, reporting, analysis, and strategic alignment of global Sales Variance (SV) programs. Supporting multiple Global Parts Pricing teams, Industries, Product Groups, Distribution Services, and Accounting, you will play a critical role in helping leadership understand the financial performance and strategic effectiveness of pricing programs across the enterprise.

In this highly visible role, you will consolidate and interpret data from across the organization to provide a clear enterprise-level view of Sales Variance performance, risks, opportunities, and trends. You will partner with pricing leaders, finance teams, and business stakeholders to evaluate program effectiveness, support financial planning, and influence strategic decisions that drive profitable growth.

This opportunity is ideal for a Pricing, finance or accounting professional with strong financial reporting experience and commercial business acumen. The successful candidate will be expected to move beyond reporting results and help leaders understand the financial and strategic implications of pricing programs, sales variance performance, and commercial decisions. Success in this role requires exceptional analytical capability, attention to detail, executive communication skills, and the ability to translate complex financial analysis into actionable business recommendations.

What You Will Do

Enterprise Sales Variance Forecasting & Reporting

  • Lead global Sales Variance forecasting, reporting, and alignment across Global Parts Pricing teams, Industries, Product Groups, Distribution Services, and Accounting.
  • Consolidate analysis from multiple business segments into an accurate enterprise-level view of Sales Variance performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Prepare recurring Sales Variance reports, forecasts, and executive-level materials for Vice Presidents, Senior Vice Presidents, CFOs, and other senior leaders.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and business planning submissions through financial analysis, scenario modeling, and forecasting activities.
  • Understand monthly Sales Variance accruals, rate changes, and related financial implications while partnering closely with Finance and Accounting teams.

Financial Analysis & Commercial Strategy

  • Analyze regional, program, and enterprise Sales Variance trends to identify risks, opportunities, and required actions.
  • Evaluate the financial and commercial effectiveness of pricing programs and provide recommendations that support business objectives.
  • Develop and document business cases supporting pricing actions, Sales Variance programs, and strategic decisions.
  • Connect financial reporting, accounting considerations, and commercial strategy to support informed decision-making.
  • Perform detailed analysis while maintaining a strong understanding of enterprise priorities and long-term business objectives.

Business Partnership & Executive Communication

  • Partner with Pricing Solutions leaders, Industries, Product Groups, Distribution Services, Finance, and Accounting teams to align forecasts and program strategies.
  • Lead regional and cross-functional discussions regarding Sales Variance performance, assumptions, and pricing strategies.
  • Present financial insights, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership in a clear, concise, and compelling manner.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor who can challenge assumptions, facilitate alignment, and help leaders understand the financial and commercial implications of pricing decisions.

Process Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Own monthly Sales Variance year-end estimate approvals and rate-change processes.
  • Drive improvements in forecasting accuracy, reporting consistency, controls, and decision-support processes.
  • Lead or support complex projects, special analyses, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide direction and support to pricing consultants contributing to Sales Variance projects and initiatives.

What You Have

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in pricing, accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis, pricing, sales variance management, commercial finance, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, accruals, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret large and complex data sets and transform analysis into actionable business recommendations.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage complex financial information.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a highly matrixed organization.

What Will Set You Apart

Financial & Commercial Experience

  • Pricing, Accounting or Finance background with experience in financial reporting and commercial business partnership.
  • Experience supporting pricing, sales variance, profitability analysis, commercial finance, or strategic business initiatives.
  • Experience translating financial analysis into pricing, commercial, or business strategy recommendations.
  • Experience consolidating reporting and analysis across multiple business units, product groups, or regions.
  • Strong understanding of how pricing decisions influence profitability, business performance, and financial results.

Leadership & Executive Influence

  • Experience presenting to and partnering with Vice Presidents, Senior Vice Presidents, CFOs, or other executive leaders.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and process improvement efforts.
  • Ability to influence decision-making through data, financial insight, and business acumen.

Caterpillar Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Caterpillar products, pricing processes, systems, dealer operations, and applications.
  • Experience in financial management roles supporting enterprise-level business decisions.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will be recognized as a trusted financial and commercial advisor who provides an accurate enterprise view of global Sales Variance performance and helps leaders make informed decisions regarding pricing programs and strategy.

They will combine detailed financial reporting expertise, analytical rigor, and commercial judgment to explain the drivers behind results, anticipate risks and opportunities, and influence decisions across Global Parts Pricing and senior leadership teams.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
