About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Discipline Facilities Engineering, the Staff Discipline Facilities Engineer (ICE) provides specialized instrumentation, controls and electrical engineering for automation design and IoT-enabled integration projects across Canadian Thermal Conventional Heavy Oil (CTCHO) assets.

Centralized in Calgary, the role scopes and designs the addition or modification of field devices and control system equipment into Cenovus's existing industrial automation systems and infrastructure and delivers these changes through the Management of Change (MOC) process. The ICE engineer will coordinate the design and scoping activities with Operations, Operations Technology, Operations Process Engineering and Cenovus IT to provide engineering direction and deliverables for ICE projects.

What you’ll do:

  • Point of contact for ICE and integration technical support to Maintenance, Reliability, Operations, OT, OPE and other engineering disciplines across CTCHO.
  • Lead front-end investigation, scoping and design basis for projects that bridge field instrumentation, automation systems and data platforms (e.g., pipeline leak detection, rotating equipment monitoring, instrumentation diagnostics, erosion monitoring, power meter data integration, field SCADA integration).
  • Design the integration of sensors, field controllers and monitoring technologies into DCS/PLC/SCADA and OT-IT data systems, defining I/O, controller, control network, HMI, historian and data flow requirements.
  • Produce and approve engineering work packages (control narratives, I/O lists, network/architecture diagrams, wiring schematics, device data sheets) per CEC, IEEE, API, CSA, ISA-95, ISA-99/IEC 62443 and ISA 18.2.
  • Coordinate with OT, OPE, IT, Operations, Maintenance and vendors to align technology selection, cyber security and infrastructure ownership.
  • Own project control deliverables (scoping documents, decision records, cost estimates, schedules, forecasts, risk, reporting); manage third-party resources and procurement; support site construction and commissioning.
  • Submit EIs/MOCs, facilitate MOC and PHA, and take MOCs from initiation through close-out in line with COIMS (Cenovus Operations Integrity Management System ) and the PPMP.
  • Develop standardized, repeatable designs and templates, and apply lessons learned to new integration projects.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Registered P.Eng with APEGA and/or APEGS.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in design, implementation, commissioning, and operation of SAGD assets.
  • Extensive knowledge in facilities engineering, including turnaround, asset management, and hazard awareness, with expertise in industry codes and standards for Instrumentation, Process Controls, and Electrical (i.e. ISA, CSA, CEC, API).
  • Proven experience in Process Control Systems (Automation/OT) integration, with strong knowledge of industry norms and standard processes for oil sands control systems.

We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
