Job Description:

Overview:

We don’t simply hire employees. We invest in them. When you work at Chatham, we empower you — offering professional development opportunities to help you grow in your career, no matter if you've been here for five months or 15 years. Chatham has worked hard to create a distinct work environment that values people, teamwork, integrity, and client service. You will have immediate opportunities to partner with talented subject matter experts, work on complex projects, and contribute to the value Chatham delivers every day.

Summary:

Chatham Financial is seeking an accounting professional to join our Accounting Advisory team at the Vice President level. This role sits at the intersection of hedge accounting, financial risk management, client service, and capital markets, offering the opportunity to advise finance and accounting professionals on complex hedging strategies and financial reporting matters. Our team works with clients across a wide range of industries to design and implement hedge accounting strategies for interest rate, foreign currency, and commodity hedging programs, providing ongoing accounting and reporting support throughout the lifecycle of those hedges.

You will collaborate with experienced advisors, accounting specialists, and clients to navigate technical accounting challenges, develop practical solutions, and contribute to the continued advancement of Chatham's advisory capabilities. The role offers exposure to diverse transactions, evolving accounting standards, and opportunities to develop specialized expertise through hands-on experience, collaboration, and Chatham's apprenticeship model. Prior hedge accounting experience is not required.

While this position is posted at the Vice President level, candidates may be considered for other levels based on their relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities. Responsibilities and expectations will align with the level at which the candidate is hired.

In this role you will:

  • Develop expertise in hedge accounting and the economics of interest rate, foreign currency, and commodity hedging strategies through client engagements, collaboration with colleagues, and exposure to diverse hedging programs.
  • Advise accounting and finance stakeholders on the structuring, implementation, and ongoing accounting of hedging strategies, including technical accounting analyses, policy papers, hedge documentation, effectiveness assessments, financial statement impacts, disclosures, and sensitivity analyses.
  • Prepare and present technical accounting analyses, educational materials, and recommendations to clients, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage client relationships and provide ongoing accounting guidance throughout the lifecycle of hedging programs, including period-end reporting and responses to technical accounting questions.
  • Lead and contribute to projects that help clients design and implement hedge accounting programs aligned with their economic objectives, financial risk management strategies, and reporting requirements.
  • Partner with Accounting Advisory and Accounting Operations colleagues to prepare and review accounting deliverables and support accurate, timely client reporting.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to onboard new client portfolios and hedging strategies, translating accounting and reporting requirements into appropriate technology configurations and operational workflows.
  • Conduct technical accounting research and contribute to thought leadership on complex and evolving issues under US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve and standardize advisory processes, including the use of technology, AI, and automation to enhance efficiency, scalability, and client delivery.
  • Coach and support colleagues through technical accounting questions, client engagements, and knowledge-sharing opportunities, contributing to the broader team's development.

Your impact:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, including treasurers, CFOs, controllers, audit partners, and other senior stakeholders, helping them navigate complex hedge accounting and financial risk management matters.
  • Translate technical accounting guidance into practical recommendations that support clients' economic objectives, risk management strategies, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Partner with Accounting Advisory, Accounting Operations, and other Chatham specialists to deliver integrated client solutions and consistent accounting support throughout the hedging lifecycle.
  • Strengthen client relationships through thoughtful technical guidance, clear communication, and effective collaboration with clients and their external auditors.
  • Contribute to the team's technical capabilities by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and developing educational resources that strengthen collective expertise.
  • Help advance Chatham's accounting advisory services by contributing to technical research, process improvements, technology enhancements, and the thoughtful application of AI and automation.
  • Gain exposure to evolving accounting standards and industry developments while contributing insights that support Chatham's continued expertise in hedge accounting under US GAAP and IFRS.

Contributors to your success:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, or another degree combined with substantial accounting coursework or education.
  • A CPA designation or demonstrated progress toward obtaining one is strongly preferred.
  • Relevant experience in public accounting, accounting advisory, technical accounting, financial reporting, corporate accounting, treasury accounting, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in technical accounting, research, and the interpretation and application of US GAAP and/or IFRS accounting standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including quantitative proficiency and attention to detail when working through complex accounting and financial analyses.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting and financial concepts clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong client-service orientation and the ability to build trusted relationships with finance and accounting professionals.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, anticipate deadlines, and consistently deliver accurate, high-quality work.
  • Collaborative approach to problem-solving, knowledge sharing, and supporting collective team success.
  • Interest in developing expertise in hedge accounting, financial risk management, and the economic considerations underlying derivative transactions.
  • Experience with derivatives or hedge accounting, including familiarity with ASC 815, ASC 820, IFRS 9, and/or IFRS 13, is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work in the office as part of a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, generally up to approximately 10%, for client relationship management, business development, and other team or firm needs.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
