Summary

The Chemours Company, headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, is seeking a Process Engineer to join the Monomers Manufacturing Technology team at the Fayetteville Works site in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This position reports to the Manufacturing Technology Manager.

The Process Engineer provides manufacturing technology support for Thermal Oxidizer and Water Recycle operations. The role partners with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, and Engineering personnel to troubleshoot technical issues, improve process performance, support environmental compliance, and execute process improvement and capital project initiatives. The engineer serves as a key technical resource for assigned systems and supports efforts to improve safety, reliability, operational efficiency, and environmental performance.

This position is intended for early-career chemical engineers seeking to develop broad manufacturing experience. The role provides direct responsibility for Thermal Oxidizer and Water Recycle systems and serves as a foundation for future opportunities within Manufacturing Technology, including potential assignments supporting other process technologies and manufacturing areas across the site.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and apply process technology knowledge to support Thermal Oxidizer and Water Recycle operations in:Maintaining safe, reliable, and compliant operation Restoring process capability when operating conditions deviate from expectations Troubleshooting process, environmental, equipment, and quality issues
  • Provide day-to-day technical support for assigned systems and manufacturing operations.
  • Monitor and analyze process performance to identify opportunities for improvement in:Process safety Environmental compliance Water recovery and reuse performance Energy efficiency Equipment reliability and uptime
  • Participate in and lead troubleshooting efforts, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement activities, consistent with experience level.
  • Support and, as experience develops, lead technology-related process safety activities, including:Process Safety Information (PSI) Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) Management of Change (MOC) Operating procedures and technical documentation
  • Develop and maintain process monitoring tools, performance indicators, operating limits, and technical documentation for assigned systems.
  • Support environmental and regulatory compliance activities associated with emissions control and wastewater treatment operations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement process, equipment, and control system improvements to improve reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Participate in small and large capital projects, including:Front-end loading activities Process design support Hazard reviews Data collection and analysis Commissioning and startup support Post-startup performance evaluation
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Engineering, and Manufacturing Technology personnel to resolve issues and improve system performance.
  • Network with peers and leverage knowledge from other functions and corporate groups, including Engineering, Environmental, Reliability, Research & Development, and Technical Service.
  • Assist in training operations and maintenance personnel on process fundamentals, system operation, troubleshooting techniques, and process safety requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced engineers and other plant personnel, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 0-5 years of Engineering co-op, internship, or relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot process and equipment issues.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work effectively across Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, and Engineering organizations.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in chemical manufacturing, utilities, environmental systems, process engineering, or operations support.
  • Experience supporting utility, emissions control, thermal oxidation, water purification, water recycle, or environmental compliance systems.
  • Familiarity with distributed control systems (DCS), process control strategies, and process data analysis tools.
  • Experience with process safety management requirements, including MOC, PHA, PSI, and operating procedure development.
  • Experience participating in root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, commissioning activities, plant startups, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to air emissions, wastewater treatment, or industrial utility systems.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and access operating areas as needed.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to perform field troubleshooting and support activities in operating units.
  • Ability to occasionally work outside normal business hours to support plant operations, turnarounds, startups, or emergent technical issues.

$85,801.00 - $134,064.00
