Position Summary The Work-Based Learning (WBL) Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience in a professional work environment while developing essential workplace and career-readiness skills. The intern will work alongside a Worksite Mentor and the Assistant Director of WBL to build professional skills, explore career interests, and achieve individualized career learning goals. The intern is expected to demonstrate professionalism, responsibility, punctuality, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. Responsibilities will include completing assigned tasks, participating in weekly WBL seminars and related assignments, maintaining open communication with supervisors, following workplace policies and maintaining confidentiality, and accurately recording hours worked. This internship provides students with an opportunity to connect classroom learning to real-world work experiences while developing the skills, knowledge, and professional behaviors needed for future education and employment. Essential Functions
Attend all scheduled classes at school, as well as the mandatory WBL Seminar on Mondays at 3:00 PM. Arrive at the internship site on or before the scheduled start time each day. Notify the Assistant Director of WBL (Ms. Dahlia) and Worksite Mentor at least two hours prior to the scheduled start time if unable to attend the internship. Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director of WBL and Worksite Mentor to achieve established career learning goals. Participate in weekly WBL Seminars and complete all required assignments. Ask the Worksite Mentor for clarification when assignments or expectations are unclear. Communicate any challenges or concerns to the Assistant Director of WBL and Worksite Mentor. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all workplace rules and regulations. Submit written timesheets and complete the Ceridian Dayforce timecard, with required approval, every two weeks. Accurately report all hours worked. Falsification of work hours may result in immediate termination and potential legal consequences.
Qualifications
Students actively enrolled at Flushing Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) Must have a valid Social Security number Must be a legal resident of the United States or a United States citizen to receive payment through the internship program Must have working papers if under the age of 18 Must maintain a minimum of 85% school attendance and an 80% GPA to remain eligible for the WBL program Demonstrate honesty, punctuality, a positive attitude, appropriate workplace attire, and a willingness to learn Must be able to maintain confidentiality and follow workplace rules, policies, and regulations
