The posting

As a purpose-driven, certified B corporation, Clover is leading the way for conscious businesses by demonstrating care for all stakeholders and moving the world forward. We are committed to lowering our environmental impact and meeting our sustainability targets, by providing kids and adults with healthy, nutritious, and delicious products that are made with care for animals, people, and the planet.

About the Role

The Database Engineer designs, builds, administers, and improves the data platforms that support Clover Sonoma's dairy manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, finance, sales, and reporting operations. The role is responsible to design, build, and support enterprise data pipelines from SAP S/4HANA in SAP RISE through SAP HANA Cloud and into an AWS Data Lake. This role will implement a Medallion Architecture—Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers—to deliver governed, reliable, and Power BI-ready datasets.

Working closely with IT, business leaders, application owners, implementation partners, and data and analytics teams, the Database Engineer translates operational needs into durable technical solutions. The position also helps strengthen master data integrity, production support, reporting accuracy, and business continuity across a time-sensitive food manufacturing and distribution environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Design, implement, administer, monitor, and optimize relational databases and related data services supporting SAP and other business-critical applications.

- Design and build secure data pipelines from SAP S/4HANA in RISE to SAP HANA Cloud and AWS.

- Extract SAP data using approved technologies such as CDS Views, OData, ODP/ODQ, SLT, SDI/SDA, APIs, or SAP Datasphere.

- Design SAP HANA Cloud schemas, calculation views, SQLScript procedures, data models, and replication processes.

- Implement Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers within the AWS Data Lake.

- Build curated data models for Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models.

- Develop and maintain reliable data pipelines, interfaces, and integrations between SAP and business systems such as warehouse, manufacturing, quality, payroll, CRM, sales, and business intelligence platforms.

- Monitor database health, availability, job execution, storage, replication, and query performance; identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.

- Establish and maintain database backup, recovery, high-availability, disaster-recovery, retention, and archival practices consistent with business continuity requirements.

- Apply role-based access, encryption, logging, change control, and other security practices to protect company, customer, employee, supplier, and operational data.

- Partner with business and functional teams to improve the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and governance of item, material, vendor, customer, pricing, inventory, and other master data.

- Support data migration, cleansing, validation, reconciliation, and cutover activities for SAP enhancements, acquisitions, system implementations, and process changes.

- Create and maintain technical documentation, including database architecture, data flows, interfaces, data dictionaries, operating procedures, recovery procedures, and support runbooks.

- Provide responsive production support for database and integration incidents that may affect plant operations, warehousing, order fulfillment, transportation, financial processing, or customer service, including occasional after-hours support for critical events.

- Evaluate database technologies, tools, and automation opportunities and recommend improvements that increase reliability, scalability, security, data quality, and team efficiency.

- Follow company cybersecurity, data privacy, food safety, quality, change-management, and record-retention requirements while performing work in office, warehouse, and manufacturing environments.

- Perform other duties and participate in cross-functional projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, data management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

- Five or more years of experience in database engineering, database administration, data engineering, or a closely related role supporting business-critical systems.

- Hands-on production experience supporting SAP S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and RISE with SAP environments.

- Hands-on experience designing, building, or administering an AWS cloud data lake, including practical experience with Amazon S3 and relevant AWS data services such as AWS Glue, AWS Lake Formation, Amazon Athena, Amazon Redshift, or comparable services.

- Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational database design, performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, backup and recovery, and production troubleshooting.

- Experience building or supporting integrations, ETL or ELT processes, APIs, batch jobs, and data exchanges across enterprise applications.

- Working knowledge of database security, access controls, auditing, data protection, change management, and disaster recovery practices.

- Ability to analyze complex technical and operational issues, identify root causes, communicate risks clearly, and coordinate resolution across technical and business teams.

- Strong documentation, project management, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, vendors, and consultants.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in food, beverage, dairy, consumer packaged goods, manufacturing, warehousing, or distribution operations.

- Experience with SAP modules and data supporting materials management, production planning, sales and distribution, warehouse or inventory management, finance, controlling, and profitability analysis.

- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Power BI, and complementary cloud, database, and analytics technologies.

- Familiarity with manufacturing and operational platforms such as MES, warehouse management, transportation, quality, maintenance, or shop-floor systems.

- Experience with data governance, master data management, data quality monitoring, metadata management, and reporting reconciliation.

- SAP, Microsoft, database, cloud, or data engineering certification.

- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

Core Competencies

- Technical depth and practical judgment

- Data integrity and attention to detail

- Operational urgency and dependable follow-through

- Root-cause analysis and structured problem solving

- Cross-functional collaboration and clear communication

- Continuous improvement and disciplined change management

The role requires regular use of a computer and may require work outside normal business hours to support critical incidents, maintenance windows, upgrades, or implementations. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
