As the parent company of BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift, we connect the tools and systems that power growth, enabling businesses to unlock the full potential of their data, deliver seamless and personalized experiences across every channel, and adapt swiftly to an ever-changing market. We believe in harnessing AI responsibly to unlock new possibilities, and we’re looking for individuals who use it intentionally to solve problems, accelerate outcomes, and expand what’s possible in their role. Our purpose is to help businesses confidently solve complex commerce challenges so they can build smarter, adapt faster, and grow on their own terms. If you want to be part of a team of bold builders, sharp thinkers, and technical trailblazers who shape the future of commerce, this is the place for you.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Software Engineering Manager to join the fully remote Engineering team at Feedonomics.

This role is for a person who thrives at building and operating a high performing software engineering team and is passionate about empowering engineers to achieve the best work of their careers. Well respected by technical and non-technical individuals, this person is an influential leader, coach, manager, and engineer. This leader will need to balance: driving our aggressive product roadmap, improving the performance and stability of our system, introducing engineering best practices into the organization, and leading/mentoring other engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Build an open, positive and energized culture
  • Build, lead and hire a high-caliber team of software engineers
  • Drive our technical roadmap and direction of our stack
  • Lead and inspire your team and other engineers to build the best ecommerce products on the planet
  • Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement
  • Ensure that technical decisions support our goals of quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability and security

Management responsibilities:

  • Be both a highly technical hands-on coder and an effective people manager
  • Hold your own in technical discussion, be a subject matter expert and have strategic influence
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers and stakeholders in all corporate offices to promote communication and coordination
  • Establish team objectives in alignment with business goals
  • Organize and facilitate regular 1:1’s with your team for coaching and mentoring
  • Execution of performance improvement plans for under-performers
  • Continued enforcement of best practices to improve engineering quality and efficiency
  • Establish a sense of urgency and direction; set expectations
  • Create and participate in an on-call rotation for incident management

Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience in building systems in PHP, Go, Python, Typescript, Angular, Ruby, etc.
  • Knowledge of gRPC, RabbitMQ, and familiarity with caching solutions
  • 2+ years managing engineering teams, including demonstrated track record of growing senior talent and building team structure from the ground up
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform or Cloud Computing desirable
  • Experience with relational database systems and external services integrations
  • Experience with backend and frontend (UI) development
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and leading sprint ceremonies.
  • Experience with SaaS platforms or Cloud Computing highly desirable
  • Solid UNIX / LAMP knowledge (ideally 2+ years working experience with PHP, MySQL, and Linux)
  • Think iteratively by breaking down problems into smaller, deliverable / deployable pieces.
  • Prior experience at a commerce software company is a plus

Education

  • BS degree required or higher degree in Computer Science or related technical field

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?
