Job Summary

The Field Service Technician 2, HVAC handles the most complex mechanical service scopes independently within the job-site. That means proficient diagnostics and repair on chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, humidification, and controls. This tech sets the on-site quality and safety example and backs up the Lead/Field Superintendent on escalations, quality reviews, and workload balance. This is a mid-level position with opportunity for growth.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Field Work Execution

  • Execute the most complex service scopes independently; sequence multi-day and multi-trade work.
  • Provide expert diagnostics and repair on complex mechanical plant, including chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, humidification, and controls. Handle the issues other technicians can't, and serve as a capable second on escalations.
  • Set the on-site quality example; check own and others' work against applicable codes, manufacturer specifications, and quality standards before closeout.
  • Support other technicians on difficult jobs; direct junior technicians on-site as lead technician.
  • Represent Compu Dynamics professionally at every customer site, including handling sensitive situations with tact.

Materials and Job Cost Support

  • Review materials against scope before mobilization; flag specification gaps to the Superintendent.
  • Help identify acceptable substitute materials on-site when specified items are unavailable.
  • Flag scope growth and cost impacts early; support accurate job costing.
  • Maintain company-issued tools and equipment; advise on tooling needs for complex scopes.

Documentation and Communication

  • Document work thoroughly so billing is accurate and the next visit goes smoothly, noting scope deviations, additional work found, and site conditions.
  • Resolve routine field issues before escalation; provide clear technical detail when escalating to the Superintendent.
  • Identify additional service opportunities on-site and communicate them to the account manager.

Safety and Compliance

  • Perform all work in compliance with OSHA standards, company safety policies, and applicable codes.
  • Maintain trade credentials current; mentor junior technicians on licensure and certification paths.
  • Report safety incidents, near-misses, and hazards to the Superintendent immediately; support incident follow-up.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High level HVAC skills on complex commercial and critical-environment cooling equipment.
  • Proven ability to lead and sequence multi-technician, multi-day jobs.
  • Strong diagnostic ability across refrigeration, airside, and controls systems.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills; leads without formal authority.
  • Documentation thorough enough to support accurate billing and a reliable job history.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of field/installation experience in commercial HVAC systems, including experience working independently on the work on-site.
  • EPA 608 Universal certification required; NATE or manufacturer certifications preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification required; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience with data center or critical environment cooling strongly preferred.

Success Factors and Company Values

  • Professionalism: Sets the professional example for the crew on every site.
  • Exceeding Expectations: Helps the people around them get better and pushes field quality higher.
  • Mutual Respect: Coaches without talking down to people and keeps multi-tech jobs feeling collaborative.
  • Integrity: Insists on honest documentation and straight talk about scope, from self and crew alike.
  • Safety: Leads by example on safety and reinforces safe habits in junior techs.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Field-based. Daily travel to customer sites across the service region. Work environments include mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, data centers, rooftops, and commercial facilities. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, working in confined spaces, and extended periods of standing. Participation in the on-call rotation, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays, is required.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
