Job Description

Location:

Condé Nast is a global media company, home to iconic brands including Vogue, GQ, Glamour, CN Traveller, Vanity Fair, Wired, The World of Interiors, House & Garden and Tatler, among many others.

We are headquartered in New York and London and operate in 32 markets worldwide, with a footprint of more than 1 billion consumers across print, digital, video and social platforms.

Condé Nast thrives on collaboration, and our teams come together in the office four days a week (Monday - Thursday).

We value diversity of background, views and cultures. We celebrate people for their personal qualities, skills and contributions, recognising the power our brands have to influence and shape culture.

We are looking for an energetic and pragmatic Privacy & Adtech Counsel (International) to join the Data & Technology Legal team within Business & Legal Affairs at Condé Nast. Reporting to the Executive Director in London, you will lead privacy and adtech legal advice across Europe and Condé Nast's international markets outside the US. You will be a trusted partner to our Commercial, Programmatic, Ad Ops, Product, Engineering, Data and People teams, and to our markets and licence partners.

This role sits at the heart of how Condé Nast uses data to fund its award-winning journalism. It covers digital advertising, audience data, consent and tracking, data partnerships and the global privacy framework that supports them.

What will you be doing?

  • Adtech, Tracking & Consent (Europe): Advise commercial, programmatic and ad ops teams on digital advertising under GDPR and ePrivacy/PECR. This includes cookies and tracking, consent management and the IAB TCF, personalised advertising, Consent or Pay models, data partnerships and adtech vendor arrangements.
  • Privacy Advisory: Provide legal advice on privacy and data protection across Europe and assist with International advisory work, working with local counsel and partners across Business & Legal Affairs.
  • Global Privacy Framework: Maintain Condé Nast's global privacy framework, working with the Data & Technology Legal team. This covers policies and standards, DPIA methodology and reviews, records of processing, international data transfers and privacy notices.
  • Advise on lawful basis, transparency, high-risk DPIAs and new data uses across products, marketing, newsletters and audience data.
  • Data Subject Rights: Act as the legal escalation point for the Data Governance team, which manages DSAR operations, on complex or contentious requests outside the US.
  • People Data: Advise the People team on employee data, HR privacy notices and workplace monitoring in Europe and international markets.
  • DPO Support: Support Condé Nast’s external Data Protection Officer through regular meetings, reporting and operational updates.
  • Partner with the Digital Regulatory & AI Counsel (Europe) on matters where privacy overlaps with AI and digital regulation.
  • Turn requirements into practical guidance through playbooks, guidance notes and training.

Who you are:

Essential

  • UK or EU-qualified lawyer with 5+ years' PQE, gained in private practice or in-house.
  • Strong knowledge of UK/EU GDPR and ePrivacy/PECR.
  • Practical understanding of the digital advertising ecosystem, including cookies, tracking, consent frameworks (IAB TCF) and monetisation models.
  • Experience advising on international data transfers and multi-jurisdictional privacy matters.
  • Experience advising media, adtech, technology-led or consumer digital businesses.
  • Ability to give pragmatic, commercial, solutions-focused legal advice.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Positive "can do" attitude and willingness to work flexibly in a business and sector going through change.

Preferred

  • Awareness of privacy laws in APAC, LatAm or the Middle East.
  • Experience building or running a privacy programme.
  • Privacy certification (e.g. CIPT, CIPM).
  • Other languages.

What benefits do we offer?

  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays) and extra days of annual leave if you move house or want to volunteer.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
