Join Copenhagen Energy Trading as our new Machine Learning Engineer
Machine learning is becoming an increasingly important part of how we understand energy markets, improve forecasts, and make trading decisions. We are therefore looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to move our models from research to production, building robust, scalable pipelines that continuously improve our strategies.
At Copenhagen Energy Trading (CET), we combine deep market expertise with machine learning, quantitative research, data, and engineering to automate and optimise how we trade power. We’re a small, highly ambitious team based in central Copenhagen, specialising in power trading and asset management across Europe and North America. Technology is at the core of how we operate, supported by one of Europe’s most advanced automated and analytical trading environments for power markets.
The Opportunity
Energy markets produce vast amounts of data and are continuously shaped by weather, power production, transmission constraints, and market behaviour. Using that data meaningfully requires accurate models and reliable software and infrastructure that allow those models to run in production.
As our Machine Learning Engineer, you’ll work across machine learning and software development. Alongside quantitative researchers, software engineers and traders, you’ll build the production systems behind our ML pipelines, making our trading more performant, more reliable and more automated.
You’ll own the full lifecycle around the model: from data management to the pipelines and frameworks that deploy and monitor our models, keeping them reliable and adaptive as markets evolve. The opportunity for impact is large, and so is what it asks of you: dedication, real talent and the willingness to grind through hard problems. This is a hands-on engineering role at the centre of how CET uses machine learning to trade.
What You Will Do
- Strengthen our ML framework: Build and improve the framework our researchers use to build models and quantitative strategies.
- Build production-ready software: Design and develop reliable, scalable, and well-tested Python software that integrates machine learning into our internal trading platforms.
- Develop data infrastructure: Build and maintain data pipelines and storage solutions for ingesting, transforming, and serving diverse market and fundamental data.
- Ship and operate models: Take models from experiment to production, including deployment, serving, monitoring and experiment tracking
- Improve our ML and engineering practices: Help strengthen our approach to MLOps, testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and the wider model development lifecycle.
- Shape our technical solutions: Evaluate and introduce tools and technologies that improve how we develop, deploy, and operate machine learning solutions.
- Collaborate across disciplines: Work closely with quantitative researchers, traders, and software engineers to turn business and market needs into practical technical solutions.
- Build energy-market expertise: Develop a deep understanding of power markets and how machine learning, data, and software can improve trading decisions.
What We're Looking For
We value strong technical ability, sound judgement, curiosity, and motivation to learn. While we don't expect a perfect match, many of the following qualifications will help you succeed in the role:
- Strong software engineering skills: Experience building clean, scalable, tested, and production-ready software. Strong Python skills are essential, as Python is our primary development language.
- MLOps and development practices: Proficiency in Git, code reviews, CI/CD, experiment tracking, model deployment, and monitoring.
- Cloud computing: Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP, ideally including relevant data and machine learning services.
- Problem-solving and communication: The ability to structure complex problems, communicate clearly, and collaborate with colleagues across technical and commercial disciplines. Full professional proficiency in English is required.
- Ownership: The ability to work independently and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
- Interest in energy markets: Curiosity about power markets, trading, and energy systems. Previous experience in energy or trading is an advantage, but not a requirement.
- Education: A degree with a strong technical focus, e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other relevant fields. We welcome different educational backgrounds and levels of qualification.
What We Offer
- Growth environment: Become part of a young, ambitious, and expanding tech-driven trading company where talented people are given responsibility and room to grow.
- Exceptional team: Work closely with experienced quantitative researchers, software engineers and power traders.
- Competitive compensation: Receive a competitive salary package and attractive benefits that reflect your skills and contributions.
- Strong culture: Participate in both social and professional events, including team sports, company parties, team-building, and informal gatherings that strengthen our team spirit.
- Central Copenhagen location: Work from our office in Carlsberg Byen, located in beautifully renovated historic Carlsberg buildings.
